Hamilton is a 2020 American musical drama film that is a live stage production recording of the Broadway musical of the same name, which in turn is inspired by the 2004 biography Alexander Hamilton by Ron Chernow. The film is directed and produced by Thomas Kail and produced, written, and composed by Lin-Manuel Miranda. Miranda also stars in the titular role of Treasury Secretary and Founding Father Alexander Hamilton, along with the original principal Broadway cast of the musical.
Hamilton was originally intended to be released theatrically on October 15, 2021. However, in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, it was moved up and was released digitally worldwide on Disney+ on July 3, 2020.[4][5][6] The film received positive reviews from critics, who praised the visuals, performances, and directing.
