You’re standing in front of a shelf full of car seats. You’ve zeroed in on a type, a brand, a color. But hang on — one of the seats is a Hoopty Hoo Special Amazing Wonderful, the other is a Hoopty Hoo Special Amazing Wonderful LX and costs $20 more. For the love of God, what is that extra $20 for? Clear as mud, right? Maybe some examples will help it hit home. Graco’s SnugRide Click Connect 30 LX comes with a crank-to-adjust base that’s easier to install than the one on the non-LX version. As mentioned above, SE usually applies to strollers. Bugaboo is probably the brand best-known for its special editions; in recent years the company has put out metallic silver and all-black strollers as well as designer-themed strollers (Diesel, Missoni, which is pictured next to the title above and is sold out forever, so forget it) and currently offers an iteration of the Bee3 inspired by Van Gogh: But sometimes the SE means the stroller has special features: The Valco Baby Tri Mode Twin SE has luxe styling, single-seat recline and an improved basket.

Just to make things fun, the most popular SE out there, the BOB Revolution SE, is the “Sport Experience” model instead of “Special Edition.” It has bigger, sportier back wheels, as opposed to the BOB Revolution CE or “City Experience,” with smaller, lighter, nimbler wheels. DX and DLX, in car-speak, is a notch above Luxury, but you try figuring out the difference in terms of car seat features. The Cosco Light ’n Comfy DX car seat has an infant insert and an easier harness adjustment than the standard Light ’n Comfy, for example. Proving the point that when car seats come in an LX and a DLX version the DLX is usually nicer — Evenflo’s Platinum Symphony DLX has a higher quality LATCH mechanism than the LX seat, and retails for about $20 more. EX is not found often in the names of car seats or strollers, and though you can be assured it means something, it’s often not clear what it is. The Safety 1st Advance EX 65 Air+, for example, is for “Extended” rear-facing use — it holds children rear-facing to 50 pounds, as opposed to the Safety 1st Advance SE 65 Air+ Convertible Car Seat, with a rear-facing weight limit of 40 pounds.

Just to confuse you more, by the way, the “SE” in the name of that last seat refers to a “Super-Extended” weight range, not to it being a Special Edition. This is fun, huh? Last but not least, as we mentioned above, cars denoted as GT models have extra-sporty styling. Baby Jogger must have had this in mind when it named the City Mini GT, which adds all-terrain wheels, an adjustable handlebar and a hand-operated parking brake to its City Mini stroller for an extra $100. Oh, it’s confusing, all right. But if you put two boxes beside each other, or call up descriptions of the two similar items and compare and contrast the feature lists, you’ll soon figure out what the difference is. Is the difference worth paying for? We have some opinions — our feature Are expensive car seats safer? 10 features worth paying for outlines the safety and other features we find valuable — but in the end, we are all alone at the baby store. All we can help you do is choose a little less blindly.

I was initially a strong proponent of not wanting to receive excess junk, but after reading so many good things, I bit my tongue and went for it. I was so excited to get my Amazon baby registry box that I forgot to get pictures of the unboxing and all the goods in their box. Honestly, the picture of the box (below) was an afterthought, but I like and appreciate the extra touch that Amazon did with the custom baby registry logo on the box versus the typical brown kraft box with Amazon black tape closure.

Amazon Baby Registry Welcome Box Included Free Welcome Baby Box ReviewFirst and foremost… The box itself is technically free, but you do have to spend $10 and sign up for Amazon Prime to get it (details below). Because I have a Prime account and planned on using my registry as my shopping list, these factors weren’t deal breakers, as I feel like I truly did receive the box for free. As for the goods, I’ll say what I wanted most was the Avent 4-ounce baby bottle, and it was the first thing I saw when I opened the box. Amazon must realize that these bottles are expensive and people do like getting them for free in their welcome boxes. It’s always nice to see what you really want as soon as you open the box. Personally, I won’t drink the coconut water, but I did put it in the refrigerator in case my husband decides to get froggy and try it. Although I’ve tried Kind bars in the past, I’ve never been a big fan, but what I’ve tried were the protein bars. The peanut butter and strawberry bar looks moister than the protein bars, so I may try it.

Most of the baby tester samples will be used before our baby boy is here, but who doesn’t test out products before using them on their child? My husband snatched the Babygenics lotion and the Burt’s Bees firming serum (why? I couldn’t tell you). I’m going to wash a load of laundry with the Babygenics detergent. I have sensitive skin, but I won’t be able to tell if it affects me with just one load. I’ll probably end up using Deft for the baby anyway, but a being able to wash a load of laundry with the sample saves from using the regular detergent for a load. I was surprised by the lack of coupons, but in reality, it shouldn’t have surprised me. The $20 off Graco select Graco products sounds great, it didn’t work with any of the Graco items that I wanted, so I won’t be able to use it. I even tried using it on the Graco 30 LX car seat that they featured on the coupon, but couldn’t get it to work on any pattern. I did get it to work with the Graco Blossom 4 in 1 High Chair Seating System, Sapphire, but this wasn’t the model that my husband and I wanted, so I didn’t purchase it.

Even with the $20 off coupon, it was still more than the Graco high chair that we really wanted (the Graco DuoDiner LX Highchair, Metropolis). So far, I’ve not been able to use any of the special coupon deals that Amazon offers when you open a registry (25% off select maternity clothes or select baby clothes). “Select items” really means select with Amazon. How to Get the Amazon Baby Registry BoxIt’s pretty simple and even easier if you’re already a Prime member, since that’s one of the steps to get the box. There are three requirements. and start a baby registry. Once you've started your baby registry, you’ll see at the top of the screen, there’s a list of suggested categories to add to your registry. Add one thing from each category. If you really don’t need something from the category, you can manually mark it complete without adding the item. For example, if you don’t need a high chair or don’t want a baby gate, just mark it off. As you add items to your registry, Amazon will calculate how close you are to filling your registry 100%.

Next, join the Prime family. If you’re already a Prime member, this requirement box will already be checked. Lastly, purchase at least $10 worth of item(s) from your registry. The box associated with this step will be checked off once your item(s) have shipped. **TIP** If you don't want to purchase a baby item, add something you would want to purchase, like a pack of pens, t-shirt or book. Once all three boxes are checked, you are eligible to claim your box. It’ll ship free, and you’ll receive it in 4-5 business days. Rate the Baby Registry Box RatingOverall, I’d give the Amazon Registry Box 4 out of 5 stars. I’d estimate the value of my bag to be at least $22.68 plus $21 in coupons. I’m not sure what Amazon would need to do to get my 5 of 5 stars, but for a free box, it’s a great deal, even if for the Avent baby bottle alone. Maybe if I hadn’t already made up my mind about Aveeno over Johnson & Johnson or Babygenics or Deft over Babygenics, I would be more excited to try out the samples.

But, for what the box is, it’s really good. Although getting a lot of great coupons would be nice, I’m also glad that I didn’t get swamped with a bunch of bad coupons that I’ll just throw in the recycle bin.Do you think you'll try the Amazon baby registry welcome box?
