Residents who live in unincorporated areas of Volusia County are provided waste services through Volusia County's Solid Waste and Recycling Division. Residents are charged for service by an annual $190 non-ad-valorem assessment per residential unit. Volusia County contracts with Republic Services to provide garbage collection to residents living in single-family homes or multi-family dwellings with no more than four units. Single-family homes on more than 10 acres are required by law to provide their own proper disposal of waste and may choose to participate in the county's subscription services by calling the Solid Waste and Recycling Division at: 386-423-3862 New Smyrna Beach All materials meant for collection (household garbage, recycling or yard waste) must be at the curb by 6 a.m. on the proper pick-up day. Garbage pickup is once a week in the 96-gallon cart that is provided free of charge. Materials must be enclosed in this secure container and placed within 10 feet of the curb by 6 a.m. on the designated pick-up day.
The hauler has until 8 p.m. to collect the waste. Collection service allows each residence to place four bulky items curbside for collection every week. These items include appliances, furniture, passenger vehicle sized tires (with or without the rims), swing sets, water heaters, other metal junk & “bulky” items. Simply place any combination of up to 4 items at the curb on your normally scheduled garbage collection day. “Bulky” items will be collected no later than the end of the calendar day following the designated day of collection. No prior notification is necessary. Yard waste is picked up at the curb and mulched at the landfill for reuse. The equivalent of four 32-gallon containers or eight plastic bags per household can be picked up each week. Please DO NOT place yard waste in your 96-gallon cart. Please DO NOT mix yard waste with any other types of waste. Up to four large or "bulky" items can be placed out for collection with your regular household garbage per week.

Construction and demolition debris or debris from home improvements IS NOT included in curbside service. This includes items such as tile, wood flooring, screening, concrete, wallboard, drywall, lumber of any kind, pallets, aluminum siding, fencing, baseboards, insulation, shingles or other roofing materials, sliding glass doors, large pieces of glass or mirror, shower doors, shower surrounds, cabinets, vanities & countertops.
You may contact your Garbage Company or another authorized solid waste hauler for estimated collection charges to provide special collection and disposal. DO NOT place commercial debris curbside for residential collection. Hazardous waste - Hazardous waste IS NOT included in curbside service. Hazardous Waste includes, but is not limited to, items such as car batteries, all automobile related liquids or parts, engine degreaser, metal cleaners, hobby chemicals, rechargeable batteries, lighter fluid, varnish, wood/cement sealers, paint, paint thinner, turpentine, acetone, acid, lye, fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides, fungicides, insect repellents, flea dips & sprays, rodent bait, rat poison, mothballs, fluorescent tubes, spiral, and compact bulbs, mercury thermometers or thermostats, pool or spa chemicals, bio-hazardous waste, sharps (needles), etc. Please bring these items - with the exception of biohazardous waste - to the Household Hazardous Waste site at the Tomoka Farms Road Landfill or the West Volusia Transfer Station.
Disposal of biohazardous waste can be coordinated with the Volusia County Health Department.
