GLADIATOR
Camzilla💬
In 180 A.D. Rome, the weary & dying emperor, Marcus Aurelius, names his loyal & triumphant general Maximus Decimus Meridius his successor & protector of Rome, much to the dismay of his haughty & unbalanced son Commodus. Commodus, jealous of his father's and sister Lucilla's love for Maximus, orders for his & his family's execution, that he survives, only to wind up as a slave to the former gladiator Proximo. From the vast deserts of North Africa, he rises as a gladiator, slashing his way through all the way up to the games of Rome. He gains the people's love & Lucilla helps setting up a plan to kill Commodus, but they are found & the dictator ultimately duels with the general. Maximus kills him & then joins his wife & son in the Champs Elysées.
✔️
It's a cult movie, so it's obviously good.
Russell Crowe was born for this role and I love the gentle honour with witch he plays parts like this.
The other leads are also amazing: Joaquin Phoenix plays the childish and scared egomaniac wonderfully and Connie Nielsen is gorgeous, her little son is a good actor too.
The costumes are BRILLIANT, especially Commodus' all-white one.
The ending is so very moving and the score is iconic.

For my own taste, it's a bit boring and too violent. I wouldn't want to watch it again soon.
