Creating confidence in your child to embrace education not as a system but a lifestyle. Fun, Innovation & Relevance cemented on Character. Together with your child appreciating education more as a tool of influence and less of means to and end.

With curiosity and joy embrace Genesis. A beginning, your beginning. Welcome.

Sequence.

Sequencing is an important skill required in all areas of learning at all ages. Regular practice with sequencing in a variety of contexts will help your child succeed in language arts, math, music and reading comprehension. Sequencing is also central to life skills such as Time management and setting priorities.

Sequencing is understanding how a series of objects, events and time occur in a specific and logical order. Helps children recognize patterns that make the world more understandable.

Back in Nursery school, sequencing was taught as Fill in the missing gaps. For example,

1. 10, _ , _ , 13, 14, _, 16, _, _,_, 20.

2. 30,_,_,_, 34, 35, 36.

This was easy as only the next number was missing. But there is more to sequencing involving addition and subtraction. This is represented as:

What is the next number;

a) 10, 20, 30,_

b) 2, 4, 6,8,_

c) 3, 10, 17, 24_

d) 5, 11, 17, 23,_

Can you notice what is happening?

In a) we are adding 10 to get the next number. So the next number after 30 will be 40

In b) we are adding 2 to get the next number. So the next number after 8 will be 10

In c) we are adding 7 to get the next number. So the next number after 24 will be 31

In d) we are adding 6 to get the next number. So the next number after 23 will be 29

Try to work out the following questions.

5, 10, 15, 20. What is the next number?

7, 14, 21, 28, 35, _, _. What are the next 2 numbers?

12, 24, 36, 48, 60, _, _, _,. What are the next 3 numbers?

20, 40, 60, 80, _, _, _, _. What are the next 4 numbers?

35, 40, 45, 50, _, _, _, _, _. What are the next 5 numbers?

We have looked at addition. Let's now look at subtraction.

a) 100, 90, 80, 70, _

b) 85, 80, 75, 70, _

c) 55, 44, 33, 22, _

d) 72, 63, 54, 45, _

In a) we are subtracting 10 to get the next number. So the next number will be 60

In b) we are subtracting 5 to get the next number. So the next number will be 65

In c) we are subtracting 11 to get the next number. So the next number will be 11

In d) we are subtracting 9 to get the next number. So the next number will be 36

Try the following questions.

36, 32, 28, 24, _. What is the next number?

30, 27, 24, 21, _, _. What are the next 2 numbers?

20, 19, 18, 17, _, _, _,. What are the next 3 numbers?

100, 92, 84, 76, _, _, _, _. What are the next 4 numbers?

60, 54, 48, 42, _, _, _, _, _. What are the next 5 numbers?

Hope you have enjoyed discovering sequence. In addition to academic learning we learn a character trait& memory verse to encourage your child in studying both books & living life. This week's character trait is Observant. The Memory verse is Joshua 1:9 that says Only be bold and courageous...

Through the week encourage your child to be courageous to observe new things around her. Even as she learns more about sequencing.

Baraka.
