Garage door openers may be loud when connected to the ceiling by metal supports. Garage doors can create fierce vibrations when they are opening, resulting in a loud and distracting noise. This noise may not bother other members of your house during the day, but it could wake up your family when you open the garage door while they are asleep. By reducing vibrations, you can reduce the noise level without the cost or trouble of replacing your garage door opener with a quieter model. Tighten all bolts and screws on your door, track and opener. Loose connections can cause the unit to rumble or rattle while you're opening or closing the garage door. Add spray lubricant to the moving parts of the garage door. Spray the top of the springs liberally and allow the oil to flow down to the base of the springs. Spray along the inside of each track and around each metal roller. For a chain assembly, lubricate the chain so it slides easily around the gears. Spray the hinges between the door panels as well.

All the moving parts can cause additional vibration when they have to work hard to move, so lubricate at least twice a year to maintain smooth motion. Change your metal rollers to nylon ones. Metal rollers traveling along metal tracks can be noisy, but nylon rollers are much quieter. They also don't require lubrication like metal rollers do, reducing the time you spend maintaining the door. Add pieces of rubber as buffers to the door and the opener supports. Remove the bolts holding the door to the opening track using a socket wrench. Slide a thin piece of rubber, about 1/4 inch wide, between the door and the bolt assembly. Tighten the bolts again. Brace the garage door opener on a ladder and wooden blocks, then remove the bolts holding it to the metal support frame. Using the same rubber, cut two rectangular pieces with two holes about 1 1/2 inches apart. Bolt one end to the frame and one end to the opener so that the opener is suspended from the frame by the rubber. The rubber absorbs any vibration before it gets to the support frame and into the floor of your home, reducing vibration noise.

Product Testing & Information Product Specs & Installation Instructions I just bought and installed two of your garage door vibration isolation kits and am very pleased with the results. They were easy to install, and provided great results. After installing the first two, I took a few minutes to record the difference between the two openers. The first is the sound without, and the second is with the kit. Both are recorded from the same location in our bedroom above the garage.Jay (South Burlington, VT) Thanks For The Silence We just moved into our new house and everything was great, but every time I left for work the noise and vibrations from our garage door opener would wake up our newborn. My wife was making me park my car outside because she didn’t want him disturbed. A friend of mine recommended that I buy the Garage Door Silencer kit to reduce the noise. After I installed them, which was much easier than I thought it would be, we were amazed by how much they reduced the noise.

It’s hard to believe that those two small clips absorb so much noise. My wife is much happier now that our baby isn’t disturbed by the garage door opener and I can now park in the garage again. Thanks for the silence. – Dr. Rich C. (Tualatin, OR) Your garage door quieting kit works great. I’ve passed your info on to neighbors in our town home community.
