Doors can be washed with a mild detergent using a soft car brush.

Doors that are not rain washed regularly need to be washed more often (1-2 months) to reduce the build-up of corrosive elements. Garage doors that are in close proximity to corrosive elements, such as coastal properties need to be washed at least once a month; a car wax can be used for added protection. Doors with timber finishes should be cleaned and maintained according to the timber finish manufacturer's recommendations. We would also recommend that every 12-18 months, you obtain the services of a professional garage door company to perform a service on your door. They will check all hinges and tracks, adjust spring tension if necessary. Reset and calibrate safety and obstruction settings of the garage door opener. They will also lubricate and clean all moving parts of the sectional door. Silicon Spray is our best advice for lubrication of all hinges, tracks etc. We call this "toolbox in a can", and keeps dust at bay, and the noise is greatly reduced from the normal 'steel on steel' door noises.

Never apply grease to bearings, rollers or tracks on sectional doors. This will do nothing but cause the door to become bound and the friction can cause operational problems. Sectional doors are held firmly against the door frame by the track system, this defies forced entry. When installed with a quality garage door opener, the Sectional Door becomes un-impenetrable by most devices, providing you and your family the ultimate in security. Most Garage Door Openers can be disengaged for manual operation. Usually they have a manual release handle, with just a pull of the cord the door will be disengaged for manual use. Once the door has been disengaged and your car removed it is important to engage the motor again for secure locking. A special external key release system is available for opening the door should there be a power failure or other failure, where the only access is via the garage door. In most cases a new remote can be sourced, but as in most electronic items, these are regularly upgraded and made obsolete.

There are normally alternative upgrade kits or receivers available. Contact your local door agent and they will be able to provide you alternatives, or send us an email and we will help with providing the right advice. Springs for sectional doors are rated for specific operating heights and specific amounts of operations. Springs will relax after an initial working period. If motorized, this could affect the open/close operation reliability. At this time the motor sensitivity settings may have to be altered. In extreme circumstances the door springs may need to be adjusted. That is why we recommend that you have your door serviced at least 12-18 months after it has been installed. Depending on the door style, existing doors can be insulated.  We promote a product similar to home insulation, though it is slightly different in construction and has a grey backing that blends in with the door.  Installing this into your door will provide additional acoustic and thermal insulating values to your home.

It will ensure your garage is not a major heat loss area of your house. Does the opener have electric power? Plug a lamp into the outlet. If it doesn't light, check the fuse box or the circuit breaker. Have you disabled all door locks? Is there a build-up of ice or snow under the door? The door may be frozen to the ground. The garage door springs may be broken. Repeated operation may have tripped the overload protector in the motor. Wait 15 minutes and try again. Is the motor running but the chain is not moving? May be a gearbox failure. Is the chain moving but the door is not? The pull cord may have been pulled and the door has not been re-engaged. Change the location of the remote in your car. Check to be sure the antenna on the back panel of opener extends fully downwards. Some installations may have shorter range due to a metal door, foil backed insulation, or metal garage siding. Is the battery installed or weak? Other devices such as Baby Monitors, Indoor/Outdoor Wireless Weather Stations, Wireless Home Alarms, Wireless Door Bells, and other devices on or about the same frequency can cause intermittent or constant interference and possibly activation of your door.

Ask your Garage Door Agent if the opener they use is susceptible to these problems. If operation noise is a problem because of proximity of the opener to the living quarters, a Vibration Isolator Kit could be installed. This kit is designed to minimise vibration to the house and is easy to install. Or, you can upgrade to a DC Motor Opener, which are usually much, much quieter than AC Motor varieties, and are better long term on the overall door mechanism. Is something obstructing the door? Pull the emergency release handle. Operate the door manually. If it is unbalanced or binding, call for professional service. Clear any debris, ice or snow from the garage floor area where the door closes. If the door reverses in the fully closed position, decrease the travel limits (see instructions manual). Repeat safety reverse test after adjustments to force or travel limits. The need for occasional adjustment of the force limit settings is normal. Weather conditions in particular can affect the door travel.

The door may be out of balance or the springs may be broken. Close the door and use the emergency release handle to disconnect the trolley. Open and close the door manually. A properly balanced door will stay at any point of travel while being supported entirely by its springs. Do not increase the force to operate the opener. The garage door springs may be broken, replace. The motor gearbox may need some attention, Call for service. If the problem occurs on the first operation of the door opener, door may be locked. Disable the door lock. All garage doors have draughts; however the extent of draughts can be reduced. Sectional doors come complete with a weather-seal strip at the bottom of the door. This multi-fin design creates an effective seal, with the deep cushioning helping to keep wind and leaves outside your garage. An optional extra jamb seal is available for sectional doors, which also reduces draughts around the door. We firmly believe that the installation of a garage door is not a do-it-yourself job.

A garage door is the largest moving object in your home and because of the large number of small parts, its installation is highly technical. Connecting the springs can be particularly dangerous and proper installation is critical to the performance of your door. One of the other services a professional installer can provide is the disposal of your old door, if you are replacing a door. Your professional garage door installer can advise you about installing a sectional door to replace your existing tilt door. Most of the time this is possible; only in some situations can a sectional door install not be possible. Depending on the construction of your garage, other modifications might be necessary. We would advise you to ask your installer to evaluate the job prior to installation, so that any modifications can be performed before installation. We can manufacture residential doors in widths from 1500mm wide right up to widths of 6-6500mm wide. We can make any width between in 1mm increments.

In addition, virtually any height between 1800mmH and 3450mmH. Depending on the door style, in most cases we can direct you to a dealer who can do this. We promote a product similar to Pink Batts, though it is a slightly different in construction. Installing this into your door will provide that additional acoustic and thermal insulating values to your home and ensure your garage is not a major Heat Loss area of your house. We also have a range of options on fully insulated Ashton sectional doors. Most headroom requirements are 280-320mm of space between the bottom of the reveal or door opening, to the ceiling line, and the same approximately 3500mm back into the garage opening. We can also provide installation down to as low as 60mm if required, however, these installations require extensive knowledge and pre planning, so it does pay to consult with your local Ashton Doors dealer for advice and consultation. This depends on the type of garage door you have ordered. If it is a standard door and we are installing, then you would generally be waiting between 3-4 weeks.
