You might be mistaken for thinking this is the mighty Iron Throne from hit television show Game of Thrones but in fact it’s just a very very good replica. And one which has had the seal of approval from the show’s creators and even some of its stars. Victoria Maclean, from Tonna, Neath, only started watching the programme last year, but loved it so much she decided to take on the challenge of making the famous throne. Actors from the show, which recently aired its fifth season, have even visited her home to sit on the throne itself. She started last July after finding a tall-backed dining room chair in a local YMCA shop, and used large pieces of cardboard to make the throne shape on the chair. She then sprayed it with expanding foam before cutting it into shape and sticking blades over it.

Four months later, the process was complete but Victoria kept it in her shed for the next seven months unaware of its huge potential. Eventually, a friend tagged a picture of the throne on Facebook along with various comic con organisers. It was really crazy,” Victoria said. After getting approval from the show’s creators HBO, Victoria’s Iron Throne, made entirely from recycled material, now gets hired out all over the UK for comic con conventions and even weddings. She said she has even been invited to cast members’ homes to watch episodes of the fantasy drama series but had to keep tight-lipped on the details.

Victoria believes there are only two Iron Thrones to hire in the whole of the UK. Having the HBO approval means Victoria keeps in contact with the show and regularly sends them pictures of stars from the programme sitting on the throne which she says they love. The American TV giant tweeted earlier this year that if the show’s real throne is ever lost, there is a spare in Tonna. In the show, the Iron Throne is the seat of the Lord of the Seven Kingdoms, and Mark Addy, who played King Robert Baratheon, was full of praise for Victoria’s replica. Victoria said: “I was hugged and congratulated by him before he signed the back. It’s a dream come true. I never expected it to kick off like this, I didn’t even think I would be able to make it. My children and my husband are so proud of me. “My throne may not make it onto the show, but if I got the chance I would love to be on it. “

That would just be the most amazing thing ever. I’d do anything to get that.”We're sorry, but we could not fulfill your request for /2016/04/28/eyes-on-milwaukee-city-halls-game-of-thrones/ on this server. The college hopes to celebrate Freshers' Week in style by giving students and staff the chance to sit on the licensed copy, which measures over 7’4” in height. The event is also opened to the public for a fee of €10 which  includes a high resolution image of the experience. In the popular HBO medieval fantasy epic The Iron Throne was constructed by Aegon I Targaryen, the first king of the Seven Kingdoms.

Speaking to RTÉ Entertainment, IT Tralee Student Union President Steve Clifford, says the college is honoured to be the first third level institute to showcase the chair. "It is a huge coup for the college. We originally tried to get one of the actors to come down and wanted Kristian Nairn, who plays Hodor on the show, to do a DJ set. "That fell through quite early on but we decided to still go ahead and get the chair. It has been travelling around shopping centres throughout the country in recent weeks, but it wasn't supposed to travel South West. We are delighted to get it for two days on campus," he added. A replica of the iconic chair from Game of Thrones (above) is making its way to IT Tralee Clifford says he has been thrilled with the response to the event and is looking forward to the chair arriving in the college tonight, which he admits will be "guarded closely" at all times in a secret location. "The show is called Game of Thrones for a reason - because the throne really is the iconic part and the reason behind it.
