Well, a replica sculpted out of acrylic plastic that looks like the real thing has arrived. Who would want to sit in a chair made of actual swords anyway? The famous seat that characters are battling for in HBO’s smash hit “Game of Thrones” is now on display in the Denver Pavilions for fans to pose and take pictures with for free leading up to the premiere of the show’s sixth season on Sunday. How did it get there? On a very large truck. The seat itself is about 14-feet tall and 300 pounds. The base has two parts, each 150 pounds, making it about 10 feet wide, according to HBO. It took four men to get it in place. The throne is a complete 360-degree sculpture, something to experience from every direction, so it is on display in the middle of the walkway in front of Forever 21 to not hide any angle.

The throne was officially unveiled by locals dressed as characters Daenerys Targaryen and Melisandre at 10 a.m. Wednesday to a crowd of a few photographers and two “Game of Thrones” super fans who wanted to be the first in Denver to pose in the seat. The unveiling and location were kept under wraps, but Colette Rondon of Denver saw something on Facebook and brought partner Nicholas Appelhans, also of Denver, along for the photo-op. The two are longtime fans of the show and will also be attending the VIP premiere party hosted by HBO at The Mayan on Sunday. When asked what it was like to sit on the throne, Rondon joked, “Awesome, but I hope I don’t die now,” referencing the fate it brings to many on the show. Dustin Hiester, 32, is visiting Denver from Baltimore. He was working from a hotel downtown and watching the news when he saw the unveiling of the throne live. The self-proclaimed “huge” “Game of Thrones” fan couldn’t believe his eyes. “I said ‘The Iron Throne is here, I cant believe the Iron Throne is here.’

I got dressed and ran to the Pavilions to see if it was actually here,” Hiester said. He later clarified it was only about one block away and he “briskly walked.” “Finding out the throne is here is just the cherry on top of the most wonderful week of my life. I love Denver,” Hiester added. HBO tours several Iron Thrones across the country each year to build excitement for the show. This particular throne was recently at a military base in Norfolk, Va. The Pavilions has planned for crowd control by posting ropes for the lines and will have 24-hour security as well as a security camera running 24 hours a day, according to Denver Pavilions marketing director Wendy Manning. The throne will be lit at night with spotlights shining down from the level above to add drama. Manning said the Pavilions worked with HBO secretly for about three weeks to make it all happen after the channel approached them to display the throne. There is no cost to the Pavilions or the city.
