Police said Olha Kocherhina, 44, was found shortly before 1:30 a.m. lying in the grass behind the Kimbrell’s Furniture store at 5109 New Bern Ave. She lived about 2.5 miles away on Panhill Way, in a subdivision off Old Milburnie Road, according to a police report.A man who called 911 to seek help for Kocherhina had difficulty speaking to an emergency dispatcher and eventually said he was from Ukraine. The dispatcher patched in a service that was able to provide a Ukrainian interpreter within a couple of minutes.The man told the interpreter that Kocherhina had gone to “the pool” and didn’t return and that he took a taxi to find her. He said he found her lying in blood behind the furniture store.The interpreter remained on the line to help the man talk to police and EMS. Late in the call, he can be heard sobbing as someone confirmed that Kocherhina was dead.Police have not said whether they consider Kocherhina’s death a homicide, but said they were still investigating. They ask anyone with information that might be helpful to detectives to call 919-834-4357.
