We moved to Spartanburg, SC from Cincinnati, OH last fall & needed a dining set & complete living room furniture. We shopped all over in Spartanburg & Greenville, SC & just couldn't find what we had in mind. We decided to make the trip to Hickory ('bout 1 & 1/2 hr. drive). While eventually finding a few things we liked, we found delivery was a problem. Some of the places offered delivery, but because we weren't coonsidered "local", some of the delivery dates were 8 - 12 wks out, for us that wasn't acceptable, because we had absolutely no furniture in these rooms at all & needed it ASAP. Then, because alot of the places didn't actually have their own delivery trucks, you had quite a substantial expense of shipping thru a regular freight company (no UPS or the like). Then there were those that offered no shipping. They said alot of people actually rent like U-haul trailers and/or trucks, come into town with them, do their shopping, & haul everything back themselves. This is especially true in November when it's supposed to be the best time to get really great bargains (after the furniture shows are done).

One other problem we encountered was twice we found dining sets, with pcs to match, that we wanted, & one set they only had seven chairs left ( & couldn't get the 8th), & one set they were out of the matching side board & said they could not get another one in. That was soooo disappointing, these were sets we really liked & the prices were great, but then we couldn't get the complete sets!!! Then of course, some of the furniture was really beat up (especially at the "bargain" outlets) but still were priced like they were in perfect condition!!! If you go, we would suggest you make it into a "mini" trip, take 2 - 4 days (at least), get a motel room, rent a U-haul, and really take the time to go thru as many stores as possible!!! We still think that's there's great deals to be had, just take the time to enjoy the experience. If you can wait 'till November, get online & find out about the big sales offered after the furniture shows. They even offer packages with motels, shuttle transport, & other things during this time!

If you do go, make sure you come back here & let us all know how your experience was!! Don't know where your new home is, but you might also want to go to some of the wonderfully unique shops in Hendersonville, NC. HGTV's Dream Home (2005 or 2006), located at Lake Lure (NC) was decorated with some really nice pcs from some local shops in Hendersonville. Good luck, congrats on your new home & have a blast with all your shopping! 26 posts, read 102,074 times 13 posts, read 66,623 times Don't do David's Bedrooms Furniture 92 posts, read 376,151 times I've had great experience in the past with very good brand name furniture through Rose Furniture Company in High Point, NC. We found pieces of Drexel Heritage and Henredon furniture we wanted, ordered them from Rose, and had it shipped to Seattle for 15% less than we would have paid on sale in Seattle. If you want to take a look, the website is: I believe they also have a showroom in High Point. Also, was in Asheville a couple of weeks ago and saw some interesting pieces at Four Corners in the Grove Arcade.

There were a couple of other furniture stores there as well. Depends on your taste and what you are looking for but they had some unique items. Wasn't really shopping for anything so didn't pay much attention to prices. So, might be on the high side based on being more of "boutique" type stores.
