If you have a matress "topper", how do you deal with sheets? Linens, Mattress, Mattress Toppers, Bedding • Print this Page Link to this Topic [+3] - CalamityJane - 04/05/2012 [+3] - Butrflynet - 04/05/2012 [+3] - boomerang - 04/05/2012 Our mattress doesn't have an attached one. This topper is a separate thing all together. We bought a new bed about a year ago and it's one that is supposed to be "loosely sheeted" to get the maximum comfort out of it (it's supposed to spread a bit as it gets broken in). Even expensive sheets fit it fairly tight so I can't just put the topper on top of the mattress and expect the bed to sleep right. Then Mr. B messed up his joints and the bed feels too firm. So I'd like to do the topper but it's about 2" thick and I know I can't get the sheets to fit. OK, the "pillow top" isn't attached either, it has elastic straps at the corners--it is removable. As i say, i don't know if fitted sheets here are sewn to account for that or not.

Oh I get it! I thought you were talking about those pillow top mattress' that had the "pillow" sewn on. Yeah, that sliding around thing would maybe drive me nuts. Is the one you have heavy? The one I'm looking at is pretty heavy. It doesn't have elastics though.I'm not intimately familiar with Canajun mattresses, so i don't know if the pillow top is commonly sewn on or not. I guess it's relatively heavy, i've not attempted to measure the thickness. If it has no elastics, is the fitted sheet supposed to hold it in place? Do you know what a feather tick is? Having you thought about finding one of those? When i was a child, my grandmother kept the down when plucking chickens, ducks and geese, and then bought ticking to make feather ticks. This is what her feather ticks looked like--the striped material is called ticking. They were about as wide as a "Hollywood" bed, so that would roughly have been half as wide as a queen size. We slept on those on the floor of the cabin we had in the woods, under our sleeping bags.

I recall they were very comfortable, even though we slept on a hard wood floor. There used to be a store here that sold down mattress'. I loved the one I had. Mr. B didn't love it so much though -- "too poofy". It's made by the same company that made our bed -- and we all really like this bed. Especially the dog who is sleeping on it right this very minute. Which brings up another point. It would be much cheaper to replace the topper as needed than to replace the mattress.... Well, dogs are natural born sybarites--the dog's opinion rules. Our dogs sometimes let me have as much as a quarter of the mattress. Yeah, that thing is thick as hell. What we have is probably not that thick, and the upper an lower covers are basted together at the edges. We upgraded to a memory foam mattress last year, and I can't believe the difference. They ship it direct to your door, rolled up in a tight cylinder, and you have to let it expand for a day or so. I think you can get memory foam mattress toppers, too, of varying depths.

I checked out memory foam toppers while I was there today. (I drove that poor salesman crazy dragging his displays all over the store.) This one was a lot more comfortable but I like the price of the memory foam one a lot better. I've heard memory foam "sleeps hot" and read a lot of reviews that say the same thing. That's one of the reasons we went with the bed we bought. Have you found that to be true? No, but we have the full mattress, not just a topper. That's what we got -- a latex bed make by a company called Pure Latex Bliss. The newer foam mattresses are laminates of multiple kinds of foam. Not all of them. The real ones are pricy but worth it.And supposedly they last forever (ours came with a 20 year warantee). Except they do take a while to "relax" and that leads to the whole sheeting issue and that's kind of pain. Mr. B has been trying to get more exercise (turning 50, ya'know) and so he's been a bit achy and wishing the bed was softer.

I'm trying to find a way to make it softer. But the whole "how to put a sheet on it without messing up the comfort of the bed because it's so fat now" thing has me flummoxed. I can't bring it in and work with it because that would spoil the surprise. THis store has fitted sheets with up to 25" pockets. or do it yourself I just bought new sheets yesterday. I was putting them on the bed when the mattress topper idea hit me. Do you own an odd size mattress which is really uncomfortable?  Maybe it's the mattress on your sofa bed, your RV, truck, boat, or antique bed.  Unfortunately, this is something we hear about on a daily basis. The 2" Brookside Memory Foam Sofa Mattress Topper uses a patented pending design to eliminate the "metal bar" feel of the mechanism and the innerspring of the sofa bed.  It can transform your uncomfortable spring mattress into one you and your guests will actually look forward to sleeping on. 2" Luxurious Organic Cotton Quilt is soft to the touch, helps regulate your body temperature, and is environmentally friendly.

Highest density memory foam on the market! While most memory foam sofa mattress toppers on the market contain cheap imported 1.5 LB or 2 LB memory foam, our topper uses luxurious 4 LB Memory Foam.  This is the same durable high density memory foam found in the name brand mattresses you've seen on TV. Luxurious Super Soft Comfort Foam works in tandem with the memory foam to provide maximum pressure point relief while eliminating the metal bar and mechanism feel. Custom Fit Elastic Bands on all four corners!  Choose your mattress height when ordering and we'll custom fit the elastic bands to ensure a snug fit. Can be made in any size or shape upon request! Not just for sofa beds! This topper can also be ordered in residential, RV, Truck, Boat, and Aircraft Mattress sizes upon request!  Please call for pricing. Q: "I own an uncomfortable sleeper sofa mattress. My guests can feel the coils in the mattress and also the bar in the sofa mechanism.  Will this make my sofa mattress more comfortable?

A: Most customers who use this topper in a sofa bed application report a dramatic difference in the comfort.  By using a memory foam topper, you're increasing body's distance between your mechanism and innerspring unit in the sleeper sofa effectively making it more comfortable.  If you'd like to make your sofa bed even more comfortable, consider replacing the mattress with one of our luxury sofa bed mattresses. Please Note:  This is not guaranteed to close into all sofa beds.  While it folds into most sofa beds, for some styles on the market, the 2" depth is just too thick.  In those scenarios, we'd suggest folding the topper in quarters and storing it in a closet much like you would a blanket. We do not have any way of knowing whether or not your sofa bed mechanism can accomodate the extra 2" of depth.  Please note that we will not take returns based on a topper not fitting into your sofa bed. The Brookside Memory Foam Topper used in a sofa bed application: Q: "I own an Airstream travel trailer RV with a radius corner on one side and a curved edge on the other side.

Can you make a topper to fit this size?" A: This topper can be customized to fit any size or shape mattress upon request.  Please give us a call for pricing 888-488-1468. Q: "Is this topper water proof or bed bug proof?" A: This topper is only designed to increase the comfort of your mattress.  If you're looking for a product designed to protect it from bed bugs, dustmites, and liquid, we recommend ordering one of our mattress encasements. Q: "I've read that memory foam can sleep hot.  Will I sleep hot on this topper?" A: While it's true that some toppers use older closed cell memory foam technology which traps heat, the Brookside uses open cell memory foam allowing air to enter and exit the cells of the foam.  Studies have shown that open cell memory foam dissipates heat up to 7 times faster than traditional memory foam. Q: "Does the topper have an odor to it when it's delivered?" A: Much like when you purchase a new car or new furniture, your topper may have a slight "fresh foam" odor which dissipates after a few nights of use.

Q: "My mattress is 14" thick.  Will this topper fit?" A: We can customize the elastic to fit any mattress height.  When placing your order, select the height of your mattress from the drop down and we'll adjust the height accordingly. Q: "I'm in a hurry, can you rush one of these out the door?" A: Depending the number of orders in the queue, we might be able to do a rush order and get it out the door in 24-48 hours.  Please call if you need your order rushed.
