He came to the Glades area from south Georgia to escape the ravages of the boll weevil. Through his dedication and hard work, Royal's grew and prospered. In the 1960's Royal's experienced another growth period under the leadership of GL's oldest son Larry Royal.
After college Larry expanded the business and looked for new areas of growth. One of those areas was furniture and Royal's furniture began as just a small area within a larger retail department store. Since the 1980's Royal's Furniture has grown to five store locations. It continues today under the same Christian principles that the founder began his business with some 80 years ago. It's been suggested we might find more and better choices at the consignment shops after the snowbirds leave (i.e. in May) rather than waiting till November when we return for the winter. We found some good stuff there. Check the Habitat for Humanity Resale Store in North Ft. Myers, sometimes they get new pieces from local furniture stores. Bought a new china cabinate 2 years ago from the Salvation Army store in S.
