Folding chairs are great to have when you have family events or extra company for dinner. But when you have a special occasion party like a graduation or wedding reception, you may want the chairs to look more formal. Covering them with a light fabric cover is a wonderful way to dress up those everyday folding chairs. They can be dressed up with bows, scarves or fabric paint, all you need is a little imagination and a little time to make the covers. Make Chair Covers for Folding Chairs Make three pattern pieces. Measure from the back of the seat, up the back and then down to the floor. This is pattern piece one.

Measure the width and length of the seat, add 1 inch to each measurement. This is pattern piece two. Measure from the right back leg around the front, across and back to the left back leg, and add 1 inch. Measure from the seat to the floor and add 1 1/2 inches. That is pattern piece three. Transfer these measurements to brown wrapping paper and cut out for a pattern. Cut out the pattern pieces from the wrapping paper and pin them to the fabric. Cut out the three pieces for as many chairs as you are covering. Sew one short end of pattern piece one to the back of the pattern piece two. This is where the back of the chair meets the back of the seat. Use a 1/2-inch seam with right sides of the fabric facing each other. Sew the other three sides of pattern piece two to the long side of pattern piece three. This is where the rest of the seat meets the skirt of the cover. Use a 1/2-inch seam with right sides of fabric together. Sew the two sides of pattern piece three to the sides of pattern piece one.

These are the short sides of the skirt to the first piece that covers the back of the chair. Again, use a 1/2-inch seam with right sides of fabric together. You should now have one piece. Turn the cover right side out and place on the chair. Measure the bottom for a hem and pin. Decorate the cover by making a bow to put on the back of the chair or tie a colored sheer window scarf around the back of the chair. Get creative and use gold fabric paint to monogram the backs of the covers.
