Even a minor fall accident can result in a serious injury. Falls are the number one cause of injury among adults over age 65. Adding a lift chair to your living room, den or television room is one simple change you can easily make that can have a big impact on your safety by reducing fall risk. A lift chair is an easy chair that looks just like traditional living room furniture. However, it has a unique feature not found in an ordinary chair. At the touch of a button, a lift chair will tilt, helping you to rise from a sitting to a standing position. When you're ready to sit, the tilted seat makes it easy for you to bend down and get into a comfortable position. Then you can lower the lift chair and relax while watching television, reading or doing another activity. Lift chairs are designed for people who may have a difficult time changing positions due to limited mobility, problems with balance or symptoms like dizziness or vertigo.

They can also make it easier to transfer from a wheelchair or a walker to a chair. To use a lift chair safely, you need to have enough trunk strength to sit in a standard chair, and you must be able to push buttons on a remote control. There are two main styles of lift chairs available on the market today, and you'll need to choose which type suits your physical needs and your tastes before shopping for a new chair. Recliner chairs have movable footrests that allow you to elevate your feet while you sit. This type of lift chair may be ideal for you if you have poor circulation or an injury and your doctor has advised you to keep your feet raised off the floor as much as possible. When you activate the lift mechanism on a recliner chair, the entire chair will tilt forward on its frame. In contrast, armchair lift chairs do not tilt completely. Instead, only the seat on this type of lift chair moves. You can purchase footstools to coordinate with some types of armchair lift chairs. When you are comparing lift chairs and deciding which one to purchase for your home, you'll want to consider the color and style of the chair as well as its price.

You should also examine the weight limit for the lift chair styles. Most chairs have a maximum weight limit of around 300 pounds, but bariatric chairs are available with higher weight limits as well. Some recliner style lift chairs have additional features, such as built-in heaters and massagers. If your doctor has recommended massage or heat therapy to address a medical condition or the symptoms of an injury, this type of lift chair may be ideal for you. Consult a healthcare provider immediately if you experience side effects. 5 of us going to SOBE ( no we will not call it that when there) and are expecting and OK with having to pay for beach chairs and umbrellas on the beach . We are from Washington state want to hang out on the beach but with all our rain we do not want to FRY We are staying at the Penguin (PLEASE TELL ME THIS HOTEL IS COOL) so right on Ocean Dr. anything we should avoid with the chair thing? I mean it is only a scam if your not ready for it right? One destination mentioned in this post What is the chair scam? I have never heard of this. There are beach chairs and umbrellas on the beach but you actually have to rent them for the day/hour etc. they are not free. Some people say it is a scam, I say hey if you know it and are expecting it then that is great for the vendor providing it. I guess my thing is nothing is for free and if it were someone else would have been there to get it. Anyone have comments on the Penguin hotel???

I'm not quite sure what you mean by "scam", but if you're implying that the price to rent an umbrella and a couple of chairs is expensive, I could agree with you. However, this is typical of SOBE as there is no natural shade (palm trees) on the beach. You could opt to rent the umbrella alone and bring your own beach towel to lay under it. That would save you a couple of bucks. I think the umbrella alone is something like 12 bucks. Yeah well "Scam" what something I read from somone elses post... Like I said I THINK IT IS A GREAT IDEA!!!. Where do you rent umrellas at? We are staying at the penguin hotel on Ocean. If you are there for several days you can buy an umbrella at Walgreens or CVS for very little cost. I'm not understanding the "Scam" part here. You walk on the beach and you see things for rent and you rent them--where's the scam? We go to Cape May NJ all the time and rent chairs and umbrellas--it's the way of life, no scam. Either take your own and drag it with you or rent and pay for it.

MAybe its the rental charge. But they have rental charges all over Fl....and some might consider it high. On Singer Island in front of the Marriott Ocean Point.....it was $35.00 a day. On Ft Laud, Hollywood and S through some parts of Sunny Isles, it is between $30.00 a day and $25 a day. Usually thats for one brella and 2 chairs or chaises....and some will have weekly specials...you need to ask. If a long period, I agree with those above, buy some...if you have a car, the Wal Mart on Hallandale BEach Blvd & the ocean had some for $9.99 and 13.99 (and higher for bigger)...so I'm sure the Wal Mart in that area would be about the same. Didn't notice the chair prices.

Make sure you bring sun protection. And hat & beach shoes... sand super hot in summer... I always expect to and am happy to pay for a chair and an umbrella but was really annoyed that the first day I went to the beach the umbrella stand posted their rates and charges $7 for an umbrella and $8 for a chair which was posted. I know this is a little cheaper than usual but the next day they were closed and the umbrella stand next door charged me ten, ten and ten (two chairs and an umbrella) which I found a little excesive. I felt like they deliberately ripped me off since I would assume that their prices should be similar to the other stand since they are right next to each other and people don't flock to the other one. Also there prices weren't posted which led me to believe that they made the price up on the spot. Of course I could have easily moved to another stand but was too lazy so the choice was mine, I just can't chase the feeling that they took advantage of a tourist which actually may not be the case at all.

If the prices were listed as such I wouldn;t have minded I just wanted to pay the same as everyone else. OK, now I understand. I've been to SoBe many times and live in Florida and never heard of a "chair scam". Yes, they are a bit expensive but if you prefer to lounge on a chair then you must pay for it. You can go to Walgreens and buy a chair and umbrella for around 20.00 and just leave it behind at the end of your trip. There's a Walgreens on Collins and Lincoln Road. It's only a few blocks from the penguin. 2 places mentioned in this post Ranked of 117 things to do in Miami Beach Recommendation for birthday drinks venue 1 Day in South Beach hotel with cruiseport transfers Birthday Dinner & Dancing in South Beach Birthday in south beach 1 night stay after cruise-what do you do as with suitcases?
