While the ol' kitchen-chair-turned-backward setup worked just fine for me in the '70s, today there are a slew of helpful platforms specially made to bring small children to kitchen counter height: Do you have a favorite kitchen stool or platform for your little one?Gate legged dining tables have been around for a long time now, and they still provide a good answer for small homes that lack an area in which to set up a long table permanently. Some gate leg tables now incorporate storage opportunities, such as a set of handy drawers in which you can store cutlery and napkins. Some foldable dining tables can be used as a small corner table when not being used in its full form. This table offers a split use where one end can be used as a desk, hidden from sight when dining by a built-in cork screen. The traditional way to extend a formal dining table is to insert extra ‘leaves’, or segments, that are inserted once the two opposite ends of the dining table have been slid apart to reveal the framework.

This design still works well for some but does raise the question of where to store additional leaves. There are however new designs being forged that allow a table to be opened up using a tiny concertina effect (the ingenious concept above) that negates the need for any separate pieces, as well as many that now have the leaves folded and concealed within the table itself.Extended use can come from incorporating a concealed games table. Materials List and Cutting Guides Return to Scouter's Page These plans are based upon several designs used by scoutsSome people call this a scissors chair. is composed to two pieces: the seat and the back. slip together and require no fasteners when used. the seat stows between the sides of the back for a very compact Note: the legs are cut out of larger pieces so they can be All pieces are cut from a strong hardwood like oak. Legs and Back Legs are cut from these pieces to formed curvedThe Seat Leg is 2" wide. The Back Legs are 2.5" wide except for regions that taper to 3" wide to form 1/2" backstops for seat supports. If a softwood or plywood is used it is best to increase thickness

of the legs from .75" to 1" and increase the thickness of the slats from 3/8" to 1/2". All parts are glued with water-proof glue and fastened with 4d galvanized finish nails or rust resistant screws. * Thanks to Larry Elterman for finding an error in the radii previously specified to cut the legs. Previous plans had radii that were 8.8" longer. They worked but were slightly inconsistent with the other stated dimensions.
