Feb 05 - Apr 26 FINN JUHL Danish Designer and Architect. Born in 1912 in Frederiksberg, Copenhagen. As a furniture designer he came to play an important role in the development of Danish design in the 1940s. He broke with the established furniture tradition of strictly funktionalistic values and, together with cabinet maker Niels Vodder, he produced a series of furniture that came to redefine the ‘Danish Design’ concept. His designs were awarded five gold medals and won international acclaim at the Milan Triennals. Together with Arne Jacobsen and Poul Kjærholm, Finn Juhl paved the way for the launch of Danish design abroad under the title ‘Danish Modern’, and the subsequent export boom through the 1960s up to the present day. The exhibition focuses on Juhl's earlier designs. Featuring one of the most important works by Finn Juhl -- the NV 44 made by Niels Vodder in 1944 for the Cabinetmaker´s Guild Exhibition. Also the NV 45, and the famous Chieftan Chair.

Unlike most of his Scandinavian contemporaries who privileged oak, he used dark woods that gave his creations a more profound and sensual presence. Favouring form to function, he was much influenced by tribal art and biomorph drawings. Finn Juhl believed that 'one cannot create happiness with beautiful objects, but one can spoil quite a lot of happiness with bad ones.'

En 1982, sept ans avant sa mort, il confiera que, parmi toutes ses créations, ce modèle restait son préféré. Malgré cet attachement, seuls 12 exemplaires de cette merveille d'ébénisterie ont été réalisés à l'époque. "Les techniques modernes de sélection intelligente du bois combinées aux savoir-faire de l'artisanat japonais nous ont permis de relancer cette chaise unique", explique Henrik Soerensen, directeur du fabricant One Collection, qui commercialise les créations de Finn Juhl. Une édition spéciale numérotée et signée de la "chaise os" a été réalisée en wengé teinté noir et cuir naturel chocolat pour Triode, la galerie parisienne qui défend avec passion la mémoire de cette figure tutélaire.
