Engineering

Hodie Deus

Engineering is probably the sole objective purpose of life. Engineering exists at the intersection of Science and Utility. Engineers are relentlessly resourceful. The discipline stands for progress and utility. From the very beginnings of the construction of physics to understand and interpret the universe to modern day engineering where some are building rockets while some are building incredibly smart knowledge systems. The purpose of engineering is to use existing resources, tools and frameworks to understand the world and build tools using those. A simple example might be the concave and convex mirror. It all began with the discovery of light. Multiple studies about movement of light, it's reversibility and other factors led to understanding of principles of light. What is light ? You can't yet answer this question completely without knowing the dirty secrets of the universe. But we developed understanding of a factor which surrounds us, is responsible for growth on earth and the very factor which allows us to see. This happened because we used our imagination and some basic physics observations to infer characteristics of light. We used it created tools to help us in our daily lives. Engineering is beautiful. It is the marriage between culture and observation, interpretation and implementation. Engineers is beautiful because it aims to answer our curiosity of the world around it. It feeds our desires. It helps us make progress. It builds prosperity.

I used to wonder what makes the greatest leaders in the world inclined towards engineering. Aditya Birla Group has so many companies involved in multiple markets and engineering and technology drives growth for them. They rely on incredible engineering to make sure they're producing great value. The greatest leaders today are inclined towards engineering, not because it makes them smarter or increases their IQ, but rather because they get a way of thinking which helps them perform well in life. They develop an eye for resourcefulness, innovation and are able to interpret problems effectively. I'm in love with engineering.

I'm addicted to learning. In abstractions as well as objectives. I'm addicted to physics, math, chemistry and other ways that allow me to decode the world and make tangible progress. The reason people sit for the JEE exam is to get into the environment of IITs which allow you to explore and build with a set of the smartest people. Yes, you can build a product, start a company which gets together smart people and allows you to Engineer value. But, colleges definitely have an environment of innovation, especially if they're IITs.
