It is not 3" thick, it is closer to 1" thick. Also, it's packaging contains a sticker noting that this mattress pad contains products known in the state of California to cause cancer. I would not want to lie on this breathing in whatever chemicals it might contain. I returned this foam pad and bought this DMI Convoluted Foam Bed Pad Mattress Topper, Hospital Size 33 x 76 x 4 Inches, Blue.
