Every country has its own educational system. These systems are based on country's politics, culture and general ideas of what is better for their students. Finish and Japanese education systems are interesting subjects for comparison due to their contrast.

In Japan, person's life is strongly influenced by the results of the high school final exam. If student fails, he is not able to go to the university and this scenario is strongly condemned by society. As a result, students are faced with strong academic pressure that leads to psychological harm, school violence, bullying and increasing rate of suicides.

In contrary, Finnish education emphasises person's psychological comfort. From the kindergarten children are encouraged to care about each other and have positive attitude toward other people. If student fails he is provided with extra help and tutoring. Moreover, gifted students are not isolated in special classes. They stay in general classes, where they can help struggling students.

Japan's strict discipline in education played an important role after the World War II. It helped to provide work force and contributed to fast economic growth. However, as the destructive effects of high pressure on students become more obvious, an understanding emerges that current educational system in Japan needs to be reformed.
