After performing his PhD under the supervision of Ivar Ugi he spent his postdoctoral year at the Scripps Research Institute in the group of Barry Sharpless. He is founder of several biotech companies, including Morphochem and R&D Biopharmaceuticals. In 2004 we performed his habilitation in chemistry at the Technical University of Munich. Since 2006 he is professor at the University of Pittsburgh in the Department of Pharmacy and Chemistry and most recently Chair of Drug Design at the University of Groningen. He is author of more than 100 papers, reviews and book contributions. A large part of Holland is below the sea level. To protect the country from flooding it is protected by a network of dikes. The rising sea level is a big problem. A lot of dikes has to be increased to keep the country safe. Together with Ben van der Meer I was commissioned to create a new viewing point in the harbor of Lauwersoog.




The topic of the rising sea level was for us the reason to increase 80 meter of the dike to create this viewing point. Tube Lamp Clock on show at Dutch Design Week The Tube Lamp Clock is an installation of 30 pneumatic moving lamps, together forming a digital clock. The moving tube lamps create constantly changing numbers. It is a machine that makes an irreversible action reversible. When you are hesitating to cut a tree, use this machine. By pulling the handle you bring the felled tree back in its original position. To see if people are able to use this kind of novelties it was tested in Assen at Kunst aan de Vaart.




It worked,even kids know how to handle it! Tube Lamp Clock in London The Tube Lamp Clock is an installation of 30 pneumatically moving Tube Lamps installed and steered as a digital clock. The moving lamps have an attractive effect on the viewers. It doesn’t only give you the correct time, it’s also offering you an amazing moment. The tube lamps can also be used individual for different purposes. The amount of light can be controlled by moving the light emitting tube in or out the outer tube by compressed air. In that way you can use the lamp as a flood light, but also as atmospheric lightning. The installation of the clock is a way to explore the possibilities of this design. presentation Tube Lamp in Milan Clock consisting out of 31 pneumatic moving Tube Lamps Folly Facade s build in the historic landscape garden of the Fraeylemaborg in the Dutch town Slochteren. It consist out of the old demolished church tower of Zuidhorn. Discarded architecture is reused at a new location.




The tower is cut in the longitudinal direction in two parts and folded open. In that way it creates a façade in front of a container which is used as an exhibition space. The age of the tower reflects the atmosphere of the historic garden. Animation Billboard gets a special mention at the German design awards The animation billboard in the city of Assen (NL) get’s a Special mention at the German Design Awards 2016; it already won a bronze award at the European Design Awards 2014.  The billboard shows in an animation the residents of Assen what the near future will be of this outdated industrial area next to the city center. The unveiling of the object was also the start of the work which will transform the area the coming ten years into a modern urban living area. The billboard is moveable and will always accompany the work. The macrofauna lamp is part of an exchangeproject between Dutch and Colombian designers, organised by MTIC design. The lamp shows the underwater life something almost unobservable by the naked eye.




The lamp is on show during DDW 2015 in the klok gebouw in Eindhoven (NL). Exhibition at CBK Groningen. More than 20 of my projects from the past 15 years are on show.Most important project in the exposition is the Fiat Gondola, a scrap car that I changed into a boat. A project that shows that waist can be the basic material for something new! The Netherlands has a dense network of historical waterways which are rarely used these days. A part of the district Binckhorst in the city of The Hague is demolished enable the construction of a new highway along a canal which lost its function. Is this also necessary if we move from transport by the car into sailing by boat? The Fiat Gondola, a new car model suitable for this purpose, and we tested it out. data line & lightning New infrastructure for internet and lightning at the half demolished sugar factory in Groningen (NL). Commissioned by Ploeg ID3 Canvas: made of recycled and remnant materials, can be modeled in different shapes for various settings with wooden crates, in collaboration with Onix architects Platform Gras and Groningennoord.
