Outfitted in crisp, white cabinets, silver fixtures and gorgeous marble accents, this bathroom evokes a feeling of simple luxury that is especially accentuated by the ornate antique mirror. To make the space all hers, a cut-out in the vanity reveals a small makeup area dressed with a chic standup mirror and glamorous accessories to match. Design by Bear-Hill Interiors Designer Aneka Jensen incorporated an oval antique desk and framed mirror into this luxurious master bathroom to serve as a separate makeup area. Framed with beaded silk curtains and decorated with a pair of table lamps, the space feels intimate and secluded, and instantly becomes the perfect place for the lady of the house to primp in the mornings. Image courtesy of Aneka Jensen Interiors Most modern-day makeup areas are built into the bathroom vanity and are simply a lowered continuation of the countertop. Many designers, however, still try to achieve that classic look by building the makeup vanity into furniture-style cabinetry and offsetting it from the rest of the space.

This separate makeup area could easily be the most alluring part of the bathroom with its antique-style mirror, glamorous perfume accessories, fresh floral arrangement and framed pictures for an extra-special touch. Image courtesy of SFA Design Designer Tracy Morris turned this calming, spa-inspired master bathroom into a true sanctuary with plush textiles, soft lighting and romantic elements. A desk-style dressing table and wingback chair offer a unique place to apply finishing touches in the morning, with a mirror just off to the side. Located nearby, a traditional makeup counter and sink are ideal for quick, on-the-go applications and last-minute adjustments. This sit-down makeup counter — nestled between two single vanities — features its own hanging mirror, pullout drawer for additional makeup and accessory storage and two sconces for proper lighting. To create a true contemporary look, designer Shane Inman added a gray, subway-tiled backsplash on the back wall and oil-rubbed bronze fixtures to contrast with the surrounding white cabinetry.

Designer Sarah Richardson transformed this simple vanity into a personal piece of art by sliding a piece of glass on top and adding the homeowners' favorite pictures in between. The makeup vanity is now both intriguing from afar and holds sentimental value. Adorned with an antique-inspired standup mirror and lamp, this small makeup vanity is the perfect place for everyday primping. Kitchen and bath designer Linda Burkhardt always encourages her clients to include a lowered counter vanity, like this makeup area, when their bathroom space allows. "There is something so luxurious about having a dressing table inside the bathroom," she says. The extra-low counter makes it more suitable for various seating options, but still appears cohesive with the rest of the vanity with its cream-colored stone and polished Thassos white-marble countertop. This makeup vanity includes a power outlet inside the drawer for hair dryers, a tabletop magnifying mirror and a sleek stool that tucks neatly underneath.

She can take a trip to Paris every day in this posh bathroom, which features four walls of furniture-style cabinetry inspired by the type of cabinets used in the south of France during the 18th century. To expand this European haven, designer Ken Kelly turned the additional space between the two sinks into a sit-down makeup area with a magnifying mirror and a backless, upholstered bench that can easily be tucked underneath when not in use. A flat-screen television mounted behind a tempered two-way mirror ensures she'll never miss a thing. Photography by Ric Marder Kitchen Designs by Ken Kelly To make this Old World-inspired bathroom even more serene, designer Debra Campbell added a lower counter vanity for a cozy, fireside makeup area. Jerusalem stone countertops provide a sleek spot to get ready, while an arched window offers striking outside views. When not in use, the cushioned, bamboo stool can easily be stored underneath the vanity and out of sight. Designer Gail Drury created a romantic dressing room with a smooth pastel palette, romantic floral wallpaper and built-in makeup vanity.

No matter the time of day, the area can be flooded with light from the window above and the candelabra sconces that flank both sides. Of course, no dressing room is complete without jewelry storage. To hold all of her diamonds and pearls, there is a cabinet to the right of the makeup vanity that offers 10 customized jewelry pullouts. With its slim, floating design, this modern makeup area offers a space-saving solution to typical vanities. Unique to most makeup vanities, the designer chose to leave the countertop at bar height, using a modern swivel stool for seating. The full-length mirror accentuates the sleek and modern accents, while making the orange vanity pop even more.
