Performance values in SANS 204-2/-3 shows uPVC outperforming aluminium and steel on every window configuration. For example, a single glazed, aluminium window achieves a total U-value of 7.9 W/m2K and SHGC (Solar Heat Gain Coefficient) or 0.81 compared with a U-value of 5.6 W/m2Kand SHGC or 0.77 for its uPVC equivalent, and even a double glazed, tinted and coated aluminium frame achieves only a U-Value of 6.1 W/m2K compared with a U-value of 3.8 W/m2K for a similar specification frame in uPVC. According to EN ISO 10077 the overall thermal performance of a window element (Uw-Value) can be calculated in the following way.
