Who is DevOps?

If shortly, DevOps is a person who has knowledge in both software and hardware it is very close to the system administrator but oriented on software. According to this definition this person is responsible for the server environment, he can provide you with the proper modern and advanced setup of your server environment.


Target Audience.

Any company that has a lot of needs in server hardware for complex data calculations and storage (financial technology, statistics, etc.).

Any company that has an ongoing project that is evolving and involving new developers on a regular basis.

Any software development company that has own server environment.

How to sell DevOps?

First of all, you need to explain why the client needs DevOps and what benefits for his/her business DevOps can bring. So, if it is outstaff its simple, there you can already see clients that have a need in DevOps and they know why and for what.

In another case, you need to persuade the client that DevOps will be a good solution for his project. If it is big ongoing project and client already feel trust to your team you need to contact person who is responsible for team scaling and tell him that DevOps can improve the process of transferring project from one developer to another (save time on project initialization), can reduce cost of server environment by decreasing loads on the server, can also improve the speed of server response this way and automize the processes of for example adding resources to virtual machine.

If it is another software development company you can explain that DevOps can build the easy process of transferring project from one developer to another and CEO can save money and time and will have easy to use system that will allow him to forget about initializations of projects, releases of the projects, builds of projects, etc.

If it is a big enterprise project, you can assure your client that he will have a person who will be responsible for all the questions connected with the server environment, he will not have such troubles as staging or prod is down, application is consuming a lot of resources from server, new developers have problems with project initialization on local machine, release process takes a lot of time, build take a lot of time, push to apple/google store take a lot of time, etc. DevOps will be included at the start and will configure and automate all these operations and also will maintain the server environment during the project.


Main goals of DevOps for clients.

  1. Reduced cost of server environment (amazon, google cloud, etc.)
  2. Improving the server response speed by decreasing server load.
  3. Automating, building the proper and optimizing the current processes of initialization of the project, the release of the project, deploy of the project, pushing the project to apple/google store, transferring the project from one service to another and/or from one developer to another.


What do we need to sell DevOps?

  1. Regularly process the outstaff requests.
  2. Prepare cases and ads, like a page of DevOps services, maybe pdf presentation of DevOps to sell it like a service. (in any case, some materials that can in describe DevOps services in a visual/emotional way)
  3. Establish a good relationship with other software development companies and propose DevOps services.
  4. Start to propose DevOps services on large ongoing projects.
