Host for a specific service
It's when a single software or service is hosted on its own machine. Everything on this machine is used for a single type of service or function. It could be that only Database Software runs on the server so that all the resources on that machine can be used to process Database Queries. A lot of questions can be answered, or a lot of pages can be sent.

A traditional setup will have one or more servers that only handle web (http) requests, then one or more servers that only handle database requests, and maybe one or more servers that only process emails. Servers can be added at any time, and there is no limit on how many there can be. When these servers work together, they can handle a million requests every day.
