He is also Co-Director of the Europa Institute at the University of Edinburgh. For 2013-14, Chad was a Fernand Braudel Senior Fellow at the European University Institute in Florence, Italy. Chad is a Visiting Professor at the College of Europe in Bruges, Belgium, and has served as a Policy Analyst at the Center for Strategic and International Studies in Washington, DC, a Visiting Fellow at the University of Leuven's Institute for European and International Policy, a Jean Monnet Fellow at the European University Institute in Florence, a Center Associate at the University of Pittsburgh's EU Center




, a Visiting Scholar at Texas A&M University and an EU Fulbright Scholar at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel. Chad was awarded the Sir Bernard Crick prize (New Entrant) for excellence in teaching by the UK's Political Studies Association. He has been awarded a three-year Jean Monnet Module Grant from the European Commission, a research grant from the Carnegie Trust and is a research member of the FP7 MERCURY project on 'Multilateralism and the EU' and TRANSWORLD project on 'Redefining the Transatlantic Relationship'. He is also a member of the editorial boards of the Journal of European Public Policy and the EU-China Observer as well as editor of the Routledge-UACES Contemporary European Studies Book Series. Chad's research falls within the fields of International Relations and International Political Economy, with particular emphases on transatlantic relations, international regulatory cooperation, and the European Union in international politics. He is particularly interested in exploring both the international and domestic sources of International Relations and the causal interaction of material, institutional and ideational factors.




Such issues appear prominently in his new conceptualisation and research agenda on Market Power Europe. In addition, his book investigates the role of domestic politics in International Relations, specifically the interaction between the EU and the United States in the regulation of transatlantic corporate mergers. In other publications, he explores similar issues and questions with the tools of comparative politics and public policy.
