by November 08, 2004A beautiful island country just off the coast of Florida. Formerly led by President Fidel Castro who has since retired and to his brother Raul. One of the few Communist countries left that still thrives. An against Cuba has existed for over 30 years. Many people like to believe that the embargo exists because Cuba aligned themselves with the Soviet Union. However the embargo exists because Castro nationalized in Cuba and this kicked out American businesses such as Casinos, most of which were run by Organized Crime Syndicates. This pissed off the wrong people and went all the way up the ladder. It revolted from Spanish control and after a mysterious explosion of a US warship in the harbour had the US come in and claim credit for the liberation of Cuba, though all that had remained in Spanish control before the US intevined was the City of Havana. Cuba was colonized and several severe dictatorships followed culminating with General . Eventually a revolution took place led by Fidel Castro, Ernesto "Che" and Camilo Cienfuegos. After several years of intense fighting the revolution succeded in toppling Batista. As a basic step towards Socialism, goal, all companies were nationalized. This earned the rath of the US which after failed negotiations imposed a blockade, which is technically still illegal because Cuba never attacked the US. In addition the US began a that continues to this day of attempting to kill Castro. One of their more acts was operation which scared the Cuban public with threats of drafting of youth and a plead to send the Children to the US allowing parents to follow afterwards. After the children arrived the embargo began and many children never again saw their parents. The ilprepared foster care system put them into homes without time to do a decent . This led to many horrible situations such as serial pedoohiles taking in multiple Cuban children. Castro survives to this day and, despite the US' attemps to overthrow him, has garnerd the support of much of the population. Cuba used a socialist/communist system of governance which, during the cold war, the USA saw as a threat of example to the rest of latin america. the USA, for decades has wanted to use the entire central and south american continents as an of cheap labour. Cuba signified, and showed the route to an independant Latin american nation, governed by the people, with issues that are directly relevant to the population. CUBA! Foreign tourists are welcomed warmly by the , and there are several nice tourist spots in Cuba where Cuban citizens are not allowed to go. It is 70 miles southeast of Miami, and the US sees this as a threat, even though was only a few miles west of Alaska.Fidel Castro supported regime by sending Cuban cigars to Saddam.The only way to go to Cuba is to take a flight from Cancun to Havana in some two-prop plane.
