It is known to us that Chris Martin borrowed the name 'Coldplay' for his band from his friend. And also some of us know that his friend borrowed the name 'coldplay' from a book of collection of poems named 'Child's Reflection, Coldplay' by Philip Horky.
But I wonder if Chris knew then, the meaning of term Coldplay. Well, even if he didn't know it, he kind of chose a perfect name to suit their band, say by serendipity.
Let's look into the meaning of Coldplay that we can consider in this context.
One meaning of cold is:
(usually with "have" or "know" transitively) PERFECTLY, exactly, completely; BY HEART.
And play: To produce music using a musical instrument.
This I think can be a plausible meaning, as this can mean, 'they play by heart'.
