Uzbek chess player defeated world champion

Shamsiddin Vohidov won the World Chess Champion Magnus Carlsen at the World Rapid and Blitz Championship in St. Petersburg.

This meeting was widely perceived sensation by the public. The 16-year-old chess player has won the Norwegian grandmaster world champion, in the second round of the Rapid Tournament.

Carlsen, selected under the first number of the tournament, made a grave mistake at the 22nd match with the 188th opponent of the tournament.

He had to give one of his figures in this situation and sacrificed his fate. Shamsiddin used his superiority and forced his opponent to surrender at 36th.

This was the second defeat of the current champion. In the first round he defeated Ukrainian Tukaev Adam, and Shamsiddin Vakhidov recorded a draw with Russian Stanislav Novikov.

Shamsiddin Vohidov was awarded with the Spark car by the President of Uzbekistan for winning first place with his team Nodirbek Abdussatorov, Nodirbek Yakkuboev, Javohir Sindorov and Sitora Saparova at the World Chess Olympiad among juniors under the age of 16 in Konya, Turkey, on November 24 – December 3.
