Mixtures

Five homogeneous mixtures that can be prepared at home are:

salt water, sugar water, coffee, lemon juice, orange juice

Salt water: Evaporation

Sugar water: Evaporation

Coffe: (Maybe) Distillation

Lemon juice: (Maybe) Distillation

Orange juice: (Maybe) Distillation

Note: Distillation can be used to separate all mixtures above

Distillation

Distillation is the process of separating components of a mixture based on different boiling points. Examples of uses of distillation include purification of alcohol, desalination, crude oil refining, and making liquefied gases from air. Humans have been using distillation since at least 3000 BC in the Indus valley.

Evaporation

Evaporation is a type of vaporization that occurs on the surface of a liquid as it changes into the gas phase. The surrounding gas must not be saturated with the evaporating substance. When the molecules of the liquid collide, they transfer energy to each other based on how they collide with each other.
