Skip Hop Foam Tiles - Bold Brights Chicco 360 Ride On With Push MamaThere are two types of double buggy: twin, where kids are side-by-side, and tandem, where one sits in front of, or above, the other.

Tandems are longer, but thinner, and therefore easier to get through doorways, while twin strollers’ advantages include usually being more lightweight, easier to steer and giving kids the same view. If you’re buying a transport system for twins, make sure both seats are suitable from birth and if you’re buying for a baby and toddler, look for seats that can be reclined independently of each other. You may also want to consider buggies that can go back to being a single buggy when the older one has grown out of it. Think about where you’re going to use your buggy as some aren’t great on public transport or on rougher terrain, and find out how compact it is when folded, especially if it needs to fit in a car boot. 1. Joie Aire Twin: £119.99, argos.co.uk At 11.6kg, this is great-value and lightweight. It boasts features including dual wheel suspension, independently reclining seats, adjustable leg rests and a one-hand fold. You can use it from newborn to 15kg and the pink and blue seat covers are reversible.

On solid ground, you can even push it with one hand, but it is quite wide so you’ll need to take that into account. Little ones are very unlikely to get wet (or sunburned) in this buggy, thanks to the great hood coverage. They’ll also be nice and comfy, thanks to the good-sized seats, while parents will like the easy access to the shopping basket. It’s sturdy, easy to steer and folds effortlessly. Choose from black or red models. This isn’t the celebrity choice of double buggy for nothing. The Ferrari of strollers, it moves like a dream, is a head-turner to look at –  there are different colour options to choose – and boasts all the attention to detail you’d hope for with such a hefty price-tag. It’s easy to clean and is flexible, as well as suiting kids of different ages, all the way from birth. Can be a bit tricky to fold, though. You can always count on Cosatto to combine a funky statement look with genuine practicality and they’ve excelled themselves with the Supa Dupa - a bigger, more robust version of the long-standing favourite You2 Twin stroller.

It’s simple to set up, fits easily through doors and is great for solid ground, although we found it struggled on grass and rougher terrain and wasn’t the lightest we tried. Choose from four eye-catching colour combos. You get a lot of bang for your buck with this new pushchair that offers multiple seating options for different-aged children, including a standing platform and bench seat. Even top-notch buggies can be difficult to fold, but this one is a doddle, and it stands up when folded too. Better for urban trips, though, as it doesn’t fit easily in some car boots and it’s not great on gravel and grass. Yes, it’s top dollar, but this stylish, sturdy and exceptionally easily manoeuvrable buggy does include two seat units and two carrycots, which are approved for overnight sleeping. If you’re not quite ready for a double buggy, you can purchase the Peach 3 as a single stroller and later convert it. Suitable for all terrains. If you love the great outdoors, this is absolutely the double buggy for you.

Suitable from birth to four years, it can cope with any kind of uneven ground, yet it still manages to look great. It’s highly flexible – you can get a toddler board to attach for older little ones to stand on – it’s slimmer than most on the list and it stores away easily. It’s robust too, so you’ll easily be able to sell it on when you’re finished with it. 8. Chicco Echo Twin Pushchair: £150, very.co.uk This is an excellent price for a heavy-duty double buggy that can take a lot of knocks, as well as having an easy one-hand fold mechanism. It claims to be suitable from newborn to toddler, although we found babies need to be on the larger side and able to support their own heads. It’s also quite wide, so bear that in mind if you’re going to be taking a lot of public transport. Tandem buggies are great for parents who don’t want the width that normally comes with double strollers. This stylish one is the lightest tandem available, at just 11.5kg, and it’s compact when folded, as well as being simple to fold.

Children get a smooth ride and it’s easy to push. It’s not the easiest to carry on stairs, though, and the tandem add-on costs extra. 10. Baby Jogger City Mini Double: £449, amazon.co.uk This lightweight, compact buggy is ideal if you want something to jog with. It’s also great for anyone who has a toddler and a baby as one can sit up while the other lies back and sleeps. The seats are extra-comfy and there’s a vent at the back to keep your baby cool – also helped by the generous hood which means you don’t need a parasol on hot days. We found easy to fold, too. 11. Hauck Duett 2: £269.99, amazon.co.uk This is a good-value multifunctional option for children of different ages or as a single buggy, with lots of different positions to choose from. It’s not the easiest to fold, but fine once you get the knack. It’s lightweight and a breeze to push, with an adjustable handle. And kids find it comfortable. This is a brand that’s long been known for making practical, robust, easy-to-fold and fairly-priced strollers.
