When unable to transport a regular sized generator, this is a wonderful alternative. Honda 1000 watt Generator  The Dentsply cavitron is compact, portable, and does not need an external water source. It is perfect for missions trips with electricity.Dentsply Cavitron   When you are doing a very rural outreach without electricity, cold sterilization is sometimes the only option available.Cold Sterilization Prestige ClassicAutoclaveSteam sterilization when possible is the way to go. Cold sterilization does not kill organisms such as Mycobacterium Avium Intercelluli unless cold sterilized for 6 - 8 hours. This is not possible in most missions outreach contexts. Steam sterilization should be used with susceptible AIDS populations in the developing world, if electricity is available. The Prestige Classic is fully automatic and fits in a Contico footlocker. The sterilization cycle lasts just 30 minutes. Less expensive brands (1915X New Non Electric Sterilizer and 25X New 110 V Sterilizer) are also listed for completeness.1915X New Non ElectricSterilizer 25X New 110 V Sterilizer   The Dental Missions corollary of Murphey's law is that as soon as you get the carie open and prepped the electricity will go off.

Thank you for your interest in the Christian Dental Society and the possibility of using your talents in the missionary field. Dentists are equipment dependent. Either plan to take your favorite instruments or prepare to be flexible. Existing clinics generally have basic equipment and supplies available so that only your specific instrument needs require attention. The Christian Dental Society does make available this portable equipment on a first come, first serve basis to current CDS members of at least Active Members Status (minimum of $195.00 annual dues).

All equipment loans must be approved by the Home Office and the equipment must accompany the CDS member to and from the mission site. It is a requirement that all members planning to go on mission trips need to fill out a CDS Mission Application, sign the equipment loan policy and return with the appropriate equipment rental and deposit fees. Portable Dental Equipment Available for Rent – Click on item for more information The CDS member is responsible for the safe return of ALL equipment and instruments loaned within two weeks of returning from a mission. Refundable deposit requested depending upon the number of items you rent. As CDS often has a short turn around time between projects, a late fee of $20.00 per day for each day past due will be deducted from the refundable deposit. The cost of shipping and appropriate repairs and clean up will be deducted from the deposit, if applicable. Contact the CDS Home Office at 563-578-8887 for more information regarding refundable deposit fees and rental fees, or to request a Mission Application.

CDS does appreciate three (3) months advance notice for equipment requests. All units are Made to order Non Returnable  2-4 Weeks delivery timeIn 2009 member Kim Groizard travelled to Cambodia on what she anticipated would be a fun loving backpacking holiday. However when she visited ‘The Killing Fields’ just outside Phnom Penh she was appalled to discover evidence of the darker side of Cambodia’s history. It was whilst walking around the mass graves of The Killing Fields she found human teeth coming up through the pathways. These had belonged to people who had lost their lives at the site during the Khmer Rouge & Pol Pot Regime In 2011 Kim returned to Cambodia and visited a hill tribe village just outside of Sen Monorom where she gave out much needed toothbrushes to the villagers. These were so well received by the locals that the idea of being able to deliver a portable dental chair to offer dental services to these people, was born.

She found that most people were too poor to be able to travel to cities to access dental care and this spurred her on to find a way to supply them with some kind of dental support. In 2015 the project SOLAR SMILES was born with the support of The Rotary Club of Docklands. This project has been funded by collecting 50c pieces at market stalls and the kind generosity of Rotary Club of Belvoir Wodonga, Rotary Club of Wyndham, Rotary Clubs within the 9800 district, or Julie Gittins from Frankston City Dental & Primary Dental. Kim researched extensively and was able to access the Solar Powered Backpack Dental Chair created by Itec, to tackle the dilemma of the world’s lack of dental and medical care. Getting into rugged, hard to reach areas where medical help is scarce, can be tricky with any team. ITEC based in South America sought to eliminate obstacles by creating a robust, fully articulating dental chair with a battery- operated handpiece in a 15kg package that can be transported on an adult’s back.

The chair is made of anodized aluminium tubing and high tech plastic joints that can support a patient up to 126kg. •A well balanced 2,000 – 30,000 rpm drill • Pneumatic foot-operated speed control pedal • Solar panel and zero memory metal hydride battery It can be set up and taken down in 60secs. During trips the local community will receive much needed dental treatment, Oral Hygiene instructions (with teachers or community leaders learning how to teach this), Toothbrushes and Toothpaste. The SOLAR SMILES project is looking to partner up with any Rotary Clubs that have existing projects in any country where they feel this project could deliver much needed dental care. In return the partnered Rotary Club need only pay for any consumables used on the trip, meaning a few hundred dollars covering gloves, masks, filling materials etc. Dentists & Non Clinical Support Staff Trips will be between 10-14 days long and will be going to various overseas locations.
