It brings the total raised by the group for the units over the past few months to an amazing total of £3,800.Ann Wassall, events organiser for the rotary club, said: “We were nominated charity of the year by Sainsbury’s in Castle Vale. We also did quiz nights in local pubs and restaurant evenings.”The latest donation comes just months after the club presented the hospital with £3,000 to help redecorate its Children’s Assessment and Special Care Baby units to make youngsters’ stay at Good Hope as bright as possible.Nursing staff in SCBU said the latest piece of rotary-funded equipment will help to make their daily job much easier.Philomene Ashington, lead nurse in SCBU: “The specially-treated water inside the mattress helps keep the temperature constant and makes it easier to stabilise the babies.“The majority of premature babies we treat here only require normal heating for their daily wellbeing. A heat mattress is less invasive than an incubator, so now we will have more incubators free for when they are really needed, and not forced anymore to swap between those and the basic cots.”
