When pregnant with my daughter Mia, now almost 3, I drove the world’s smallest car and needed a compact buggy. I fell in love with what was then called the Bebe Confort Loola (now the Maxi-Cosi Loola). When I was given the chance to try the ‘second generation’, the Loola Up, now made by Maxi-Cosi, I jumped at the opportunity. As soon as I got the Maxi-Cosi Loola Up I could tell it had all the features of my old favourite, and the same clean simple lines that give it a stylish feel. But it was the improvements that really impressed me.
The Maxi-Cosi Loola Up is travel system compatible. To create the Maxi-Cosi Loola Up travel system, you take the Loola Up pushchair and purchase either the Maxi-Cosi CabrioFix car seat, with the option to have a base (either the EasyFix or EasyBase), or the Bebe Confort Creatis.Fix car seat with its Creatis.Base. The Loola Up is very compact and fits into the boot of a small car easily whilst still leaving room for the groceries. It now has a very useable, accessible shopping basket, plus nifty hooks on the insides of the height-adjustable handle. It also now features suspension to give your baby a smoother ride, which I tried out on both Mia and my friend’s baby. It also performs well if you have a baby and an older toddler as it’ll withstand the clambering of a child trying to look at the baby - a feature given a thorough test by Mia! I like the reversible seat, which allows your baby to face you when they’re little or face forward as they get older and more curious.
The Loola Up is also great for very young babies because it can recline flat. The seat is easy to adjust one-handed by simply flicking the handle at the back. I adored the original Loola I owned, and I haven’t been let down by this Loola Up. It delivers on durability, style and it’s easy to ‘drive’, whether you’ve got a baby or a toddler onboard. The adjustable height handle is also a brilliant feature, especially when parent is 5ft 3 and the other is 6ft 4! I was excited to see a manufacturer had actually thought to build a raincover into the buggy (it just zips on and off the hood) – this is such an essential in the UK. While it’s not the most budget option, the Maxi-Cosi Loola Up is competitively priced compared to others on the market, and even well below the price of many well-known names around. What to watch out for The sturdy Maxi-Cosi Loola Up is a little on the heavy side, and you might find that as you baby gets older you’ll want a lighter option at your disposal.
Also, I found the Loola Up didn’t accommodate taller toddlers. Mia, almost 3, is tall for her age but we probably couldn’t have squeezed her in past 2½ years. Who is the Maxi-Cosi Loola Up best for?
