The ideal combination of parent-friendly features and baby comfort, it helps you to get out and about with less fuss. When I first heard about, and saw the Pockit and YOYO+ strollers, the supposed rockstars of the lightweight stroller world, I’ll admit I was skeptical. There was only one way to find out. In one corner, it was the YOYO+; in the other, the Pockit. And with the help of my trusty sidekick, aka my toddler, we put each model through its paces with just one end-goal in mind: To determine which one our family could no longer live without. Full disclosure: I was sent both strollers free by manufacturers; this is not a sponsored post and all opinions are my own. My first challenge was to see if I could I open and collapse the Babyzen YOYO+. Watch this video to find out how I fared: As I say in the video, opening and collapsing the YOYO+ takes some practice. But once you get the hang of it, I think the features and benefits the stroller offers make it totally worth it.

Let’s look at some of them now: Okay, let’s shift gears to the GB Pockit stroller. How’d I do opening and collapsing this lightweight model? Here’s a link to a video from the brand that shows you how to collapse this stroller by folding in the back wheels first, making it even smaller! For me, this stroller was as easy to open and close as it looks. I got it on the first or second try right out of the box. It’s also about as lightweight as a laptop; okay, maybe not quite that lightweight, but this stroller is about as feather-light as it can be and still function, I’m guessing. That being said, this stroller is fairly stripped down in terms of what it offers. Click through the slideshow to see some of the Pockit’s features: I know what you’re thinking: These features are all well and good, but how does it maneuver? We took to the streets to find out what each model could do on a variety of terrains. The major advantage I noted to maneuvering this stroller was that you can do it with one hand, whereas this is not possible with the Pockit, given the way the handle bar is configured.

The major advantage I notice with the Pockit is that since it has double wheels both in the front, and back, it handles better on various terrain, from grass, to pavement, to rocks. But like any lightweight stroller, my fear is that it can easily tip over with a child inside. This was true of both models. Okay, so after testing these two lightweight strollers, my conclusion is, honestly, you need both. The YOYO+ is a great everyday stroller because it offers ample storage, and can recline to accommodate your child at nap time. It also offers a substantial sun shield, and rain gear for all weather. But the YOYO+ is heavier and bulkier than the Pockit, making it more cumbersome for travel, and quick errands that involve getting in and out of the car and stores. It takes up more space in an overhead compartment of an airplane, in the trunk of a car, or closet. That being said, this model is much smaller than any other everyday stroller I’ve ever tried; it’s really only when one compares the size to the Pockit that it seems big.

By the way, it’s worth noting that the size difference between the YOYO+ and the Pockit is even more dramatic if you put the stroller’s wheels up for the “ultra-compact” fold. But wheels-up is an extra step you wouldn’t necessarily do when you’re out and about; I’ve used the stroller several times and haven’t had time to perform that move, so I felt like the aptly named “everyday fold” was a more honest comparison. This photo may also help you get an idea of the size difference. Here is the Pockit stroller under my front entryway table: Here it is in ultra-compact mode: And here is the YOYO+ under the same table: Meanwhile, the Pockit should replace your outdated umbrella stroller. It’s super lightweight, and very easy to open and close. You could probably even fit it inside a large diaper bag, or your carry-on luggage, particularly in ultra-compact mode. That being said, it’s flimsier than the YOYO+, making it a tough sell as an everyday stroller.

And it doesn’t recline, or offer great sun protection or storage. I wouldn’t use it for a young baby who doesn’t have good head and neck control, much like any other umbrella stroller. In fact, both strollers are intended for babies older than 6 months of age. I’m not suggesting the Pockit isn’t a sturdy stroller! Compared to every single other umbrella stroller on Earth, this one is by far the most substantial. But of course there’s one more thing to consider, and that’s the price. The YOYO+ retails for $399.99. Not too crazy for a stroller you can use every day for your child for years. Meanwhile, the Pockit retails for $249.99. Again, considering you can use this stroller for a child aged 6 months, through “too darn big to not look ridiculous,” or 55 pounds, I’d say it’s a good buy. It’s far more durable than the $24.99 umbrella stroller you can buy at any retailer.Lightweight strollers aren’t an afterthought anymore; the best of the new generation deliver on quality, style and features.
