Exclusive Micro-Scale Space Cruiser Includes an exclusive micro-scale version of the classic 1970s LEGO Space Cruiser set. The 1978 Castle set had everything a young squire or damsel could wish for: sturdy walls topped with realistic battlements, a tall tower keep, a crank-powered working drawbridge, and a whopping 14 knight minifigures, armored and ready for jousts, duels, and sieges.

Black Seas Barracuda (1989) "As a child, it was the set that you had to have. Everyone wanted the Black Seas Barracuda." - Michael Thomas Fuller, LEGO Design Manager The Galactic Enforcer can split apart into four smaller ships for special missions. For many adult fans, it brought back memories of the much-loved modular LEGO spaceships of their childhoods, in particular 1983's Galaxy Commander (6980), which has the same blue and white color scheme. The mighty Galaxy Commander boasts twin cockpits, a detachable landing module in the back, and a pair of wheeled rovers for surveying the terrain of alien planets. All that and a landing pad, too! It even has an extra surprise: remove a pair of tiles, and you can unlock the landing module to deploy a laboratory station with a flip-up roof and radar dish. Holiday Home and Hamburger Stand (1983) Holiday Home: The blue sloped brick with 74 printed on it is exclusive to this set. Hamburger Stand: Translucent doors are found on many LEGOLAND Town buildings, but this door's blue trim is unique to this set.

With Just a Few Bricks: Small LEGO sets through the years You don't need to have a lot of bricks in order to build a great LEGO model. Some of the most fun and colorful sets around are made out of fewer than 100 pieces! Portable and affordable, they can be carried around with you, packed in your knapsack for holiday trips, or assembled together into wild displays on your dining room table. The possibilities are endless! Within the restaurant model is a full kitchen where the chef prepares meals for the diners—one of whom is about to propose to his girlfriend with a shiny gold ring! Above, the cozy apartment has a folding bed that tucks into the wall. On the top floor is an artist's studio full of paintings built from LEGO tiles. Just for fans are a new red scooter, dark-blue roof slopes, and rare olive-green bricks to add to their collections. It doesn't include every LEGO set ever released--there are far too many sets--but it does include a great many of the most popular, most famous retired sets (e.g., Grand Carousel, Taj Mahal, Millennium Falcon) from every line (e.g., Friends, Bionicles, Mindstorm) that have become expensive collectors' items. This book allows the average, not-so-well-heeled LEGO fan to closely examine and enjoy these storied creations! The book is a slip-cased set with two "volumes"--a hardcover GREAT LEGO SETS book, and a cardboard box that contains an exclusive "Mini Space Cruiser" model to build.

There are 102 pieces in the model, enough to generate some satisfying building time. The pieces--which show through a window in the slip-case--are in a factory-sealed bag, and come with a standard booklet of LEGO building instructions. The exclusive "Mini Space Cruiser" model is a small version of the Space Cruiser from the 1979 Space Cruiser and Moon Base set.As an armchair historian, I really love the 6-page, illustrated timeline that traces the development and expansion of LEGO products from the very beginning when the original brick sets were placed on the market, to the present day (2015). The timeline clearly shows the years when each new type of product was introduced and/or renamed (e.g., Elves, Architecture, Technic). The pages that describe the individual LEGO sets include the set number, product line, year introduced, number of pieces, and number of minifigures. Often there is a text box with a brief biography and photograph of the set's designer. There are closeups of the significant features of the models (e.g., building interiors, underlying story, unusual or collectible minifigs).

Each included set has a "Brick by Brick" text box that gives factoids (e.g., first example of minifig printing, description of dropped design elements such as a stormtroopers' bath in the Star Wars Death Star, inclusion of rare bricks like Harry Potter's invisibility cloak).I was pleased to be able to look closely at the Grand Carousel, Green Grocer, Taj Mahal, and detailed Eiffel Tower, because all of these great collectible sets are now out of my price range. Also, I was pleased to see that my three current personal favorites, the original Haunted House, the Detective's Office (currently available from LEGO stores), and the Emerald Night Train were all featured with full coverage.Pretty good book and mini lego|Great LEGO Sets is a GREAT LEGO book!|Great LEGO Sets is a GREAT LEGO book! I love DK Publishing and the free miniature Galaxy Explorer in the set is a wonderful bonus. A lot of love and time went into this book. The pictures and information is top notch. Another recent LEGO book that would be a fantastic companion book to this one is The Ultimate Guide to Collectible LEGO® Sets: Identification and Price Guide, which discusses great "collectible" LEGO sets and their values.
