Every so often, someone comes along and creates something all of us never knew we so desperately needed. These people are geniuses, and deserve the utmost praise and respect. Yan Law is one of these people. Yan Law is the creator of a magical thing called Dim Dim, or a transparent bubble chair for your pet cat. It’s basically an acrylic bowl with three sturdy wires attached, designed to serve as a bed, chair, swing, or perching spot for your cat. Which is wonderful in itself, because all cats deserve their very own bowl to curl up in – especially one that gently sways in the breeze and rocks them to sleep like the fur babies they are. But what makes this invention extra brilliant is the fact that it’s transparent, so while your cat’s curled up inside you can see the cuteness of their little folded paws and cosy bellies. To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that The metal wires can be adjusted to three settings.

In one the bowl hangs from the cieling as a slanted chair, in the second it hangs as a swing, and the third – with the wires removed – it’s just an easily scoopable bowl you can place on your lap or bed. Basically it’s amazing, every cat placed inside a Dim Dim is adorable, and we desperately want one. It’s currently still in the Kickstarter stages, so if you want to make bubble bowls for all cats a reality, you’ll need to back it. The denomination “armchair” includes loungers as well. However: The armchair is indispensable for our living rooms. Numerous designers work to get a maximum of comfort out of this kind of furniture. They created individual chairs – among them the are some that entered the history of design. Special chairs became popular in different style époques, the chaiselongue in the Rococo, egg chair in the Winchester of the 17th century, the club chair in the Art Décor or the cocktail chair in the 1950s.

The wonderful part of it is that the different shapes of the past make the selection of styles bigger today. Find a big curated assortment of armchairs in the Connox home design shop. Be inspired by the big selection of high class design furniture and chose your personal favourite! Whether legendary armchairs such as the Egg Armchair by Arne Jacobsen for Fritz Hansen or the modern, nearly provocative ones, such as the Nemo Chair by Driade: first of all we consider our furnishing when it comes to include a lounge chair, a TV chair, a relax chair or a bed chair. Is there already a Sofa or a couch in the room, with 2 or 3 seats? How do the other furniture pieces look like? Shall the armchair suit the rest of the living room or would a bit of contrast be good? Should the lounge chair replace a lounge together with an ottoman or should it appear alone or in a group of chairs? A modern chair might look a little weird in classic ambiences – but it might also create a curious contrast.

Here it is about personal taste. You will find inspiration in our picture galleries of the different products. For those of you that won’t decide for one only chair, this might be no problem, since the decision between classic and modern is often simply impossible: Many manufacturers meanwhile offer armchair classics with new coatings; That’s how for example Softline offers a re-interpretation of the classic eggchair (or ears chair) and Vitra produces the Lounge Chair with new dimensions. Swivel chair and cantilever are often as well comfortable as the much cited beanbag, but a whole lot nobler. The coating also depends on taste: Nowadays the decision isn’t about fabrics or leather anymore, but there are even plastic chairs by Kartell or wooden chairs, such as Paimio by Artek. Thereby the chair Paimio made by the design legend Alvar Aalto is even more comfortable as one might expect on the first sight. More a club chair than a relax chair – wood chairs are naturally not really made to relax a while in front of the chimney.

But in a comfortable round of friends and relatives it is surely an alternatively today as well as in the past. Many armchair classics, such as the “egg” or the “swan” even offer both: leather and fabric as coating material. Each armchair thereby has advantages and disadvantages: In general terms one can say that natural leather is more sensitive than the treated one. Bright leather chairs are especially sensible against patina emerging from intense usage, sunshine and other environmental influences – some people love such a patina, others don’t. Thicker leather and pigmented leather are more robust against usage but they are also less cosy. When you chose a fabric coated chair there is a similar problem: Natural fibres are more sensitive than synthetic ones. They are more responsive against sunshine and friction. But natural fabrics are better for temperature regulation and humidity regulation than plastic materials. Designer chairs often offer a selection of different fabrics and mix-textiles, since they connect the advantages of natural fabrics and plastic.
