You can rent beach chairs and umbrellas in Provincetown, MA. You could take the fast ferry over there for the day. It would be a long drive for a day trip from Boston. Ogunquit, Maine has a beautiful beach and seaside cliffwalk (Marginal Way)e. You can rent umbrellas and chairs there. There are lots of nice restaurants and you can walk and/take the trolleys everywhere It is about a 1.5 hour drive from Boston, unless you go on the weekend and hit toll booth traffic. Also, on a weekend you should get there early to get parking which you will pay for. I agree that Ogunquit is lovely, and may be a worthwhile daytrip, and Provincetown is a lot of fun.
Both seem, however, like a long way to go for sand and surf, simply to be able to rent the beach chairs. There are so many beaches so much closer to Boston.
