Based in a brand new development at the entrance to the High Street, and boasting two new Halls, a private meeting room and kitchen, we are home to a wide range of regular groups and activities, as well as available to hire for meetings, conferences, social events, theatre productions, dances, craft fairs and much more. HISTORY OF THE HALLS Built in 1890, the original Orpington Village Hall was given to the villagers by the late Alfred Brown, Esq and placed under the administration of a Trust to be held for the welfare of the Village. Originally situated at the end of the High Street, the building housed a concert hall with a seating capacity of about 350, a billiard room and small committee rooms, together with kitchen and toilet facilities. During the First and Second World Wars, the Orpington Village Hall supported its community as a V.A.D. hospital, general mustering point, reception for refugees and a rest centre for local residents made homeless in the Blitz.
It then continued its role in the community as a meeting place and social centre of Orpington. Sadly the original building was severely damaged by fire in 1962 and had to be demolished. In the following years, the old site was sold and the eventual completion of ‘The New Village Hall’ on its current site was not until 1982. In 2008 The New Village Hall was demolished to regenerate the site and facilities offered. Welcome to 2017 at OVH!
