StarTek, which took its first call in July 2015, now consists of 282 employees, according to recruiting manager Greg Austin. StarTek had been expected to create nearly 700 jobs once it ramped up to full operation by this July, company officials previously said. Instead of creating nearly 700 jobs by this July, the company likely will reach nearly 500 employees by the end of the year, Vincent Jackson, StarTek’s engagement center director, told the Journal-News. NEW: Download the free Journal-News app to get the latest local business news Last April, StarTek officials told the Journal-News they hoped to grow from 225 employees at the time to 325 employees by the start of the fourth quarter, but Jackson said natural attrition slowed the ramp-up plans of some companies. In addition, certain times of the year are more difficult to find new hires, he said. “Over the holidays, like in (the fourth quarter), it does become a little more difficult to find folks who are ready to make that transition,” Jackson said.
“We definitely see a bit of a slowdown, but we’ve seen an increase in applicants so far this year.” StarTek has until 2018 to meet its commitments for new job creation for tax credit purposes, according to Ohio Development Services Agency. The company was approved in 2015 for a 65 percent, 7-year tax credit that can be claimed on new jobs created. Still, Jackson said the added jobs amount to “more great and exciting news for the city of Hamilton.” The company will hold a job fair from noon to 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 19, at its Hamilton offices at 150 High St., he said. Hiring is being done for three programs and will include temporary and permanent positions, according to Austin The new hires also will help StarTek fill customer service roles with its Cincinnati Bell client, including technical support, billing support, retention and some upselling, Austin said. Pay starts at $10 and up based on the program and the experience of the candidate. Parking will be available at the George McDulin Memorial Garage.
