Shocking images show a crumpled silver Volkswagen Golf which remains embedded in a TV and video repair shop on High Town Road in Luton after last night's tragedy. The victim, who was in the vehicle when it crashed, has been named locally as Wanessa Lewandowska, also known as Nessa Marie. A man was airlifted to hospital with serious injuries while police say they are seeking a third man who may have fled the smash. Shattered friends have described Nessa as a "beautiful young girl" in dozens of heartfelt tributes on social media. Her mother Violetta Lewandowska posted on Facebook last night: "life is not a fairy tale and the need to continue to live" The family are believed to originally be from Grudziaz in northern Poland. One friend wrote: "Rest in perfect peace gorgeous. Such a young beautiful life got taken away too quick!" wrote another. Another friend added: "So sad, such a young beautiful girl! Rest in piece Nessa Marie my heart and prayers go out to your family". And another said: " Actually can't believe this, you were such a lovely girl, goes to show how short life can be , have made some of the best memories with you at school, you always managed to put a smile on my face, fly high beautiful love you always."

An investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fatal crash is being carried out by the police watchdog. Bedfordshire Police say they signalled for the driver to pull over at around 10.20pm. It is understood the car failed to stop and left at speed. Minutes later, the Golf lost control while going the wrong way down a narrow road and careered into the shop. Emergency services rushed to the scene where they found a 15-year-old girl and a man in the vehicle with serious injuries. The man was pulled from the car and airlifted to hospital. Sadly, the teenage girl died at the scene. Police are seeking a third man who may have been in the car but fled the crash. An eyewitness told the BBC's Justin Dealey: "I heard all the sirens, then saw this car flying up the road. "Next minute, in a split second there was a big bang and the car had gone straight into the building there. "There were people on the street as it happened, just walking to and from home, going out, it was manic." A large cordon remains in place at the scene on Tuesday morning as firefighters carefully examine the crash site.

It is believed they fear if the Golf is removed from the building it may collapse entirely. The case has been referred to the police watchdog. The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) said it is investigating and asked for witnesses to come forward. Bedfordshire Police said in a statement: "The family of the deceased and injured are being supported by officers at this difficult time. "The road and nearby streets have been closed as investigations are carried out. "The fire service and a structural engineer were called to assist in making the scene safe and those affected by the damage were evacuated as a safety precaution." "The circumstances of the incident have been referred to the IPCC in line with standard protocol. "Anyone who witnessed the incident, or saw the Golf – which has a black bonnet and black roof – prior to the collision, is asked to contact police. "Officers are particularly keen to speak to another person who it is believed may have been travelling in the car at the time of the incident. "
