Blue Meditation on Balance ~ Deborah Boschert ~ My favorite blue fabrics are in my stash of shibori dyed indigo fabrics. They also work very well with a bit of black. I used a piece of silk with shadowy indigo coloration for the snow. I cut strips of silk indigo shibori for the shadows of the fence posts. One of my many indigo moons became the focal point of this landscape. I brought in black with the fence. I love this simple abstracted landscape. The Banhoek Valley between Stellenbosch and the small town of Pniel is arguable one of the most beautiful valleys in the world! This is where Molenvliet lies – a boutique wine estate with a lot of character and charm. It is totally surrounded by mountains, with Kanokop on the one side and the Franschhoek Mountains on the other. Other well-known Estates in this stretch include Delaire Graff and Zorgvliet. The Estate is about 45 minutes by car from Cape Town and just 20 minutes from Franschhoek. It will appeal to… MolenVliet is what we call an all-in-one venue. There are separate houses for the Bridal and Grooms preparations, countless ceremony options and an amazing main wedding hall for the reception. Having everything in one place, with so many options means you do not have to waste any time in travelling from or between your preps venue or ceremony location.
Furthermore, the main reception hall is a blank canvas that can be transformed to fit in with just about any theme you want. Accommodation – Bridal & Grooms Preps The Residence, set high up on the hill, overlooking the vineyards below and Franschhoek mountains in the distance is the most amazing bridal preparations venue in the whole of Cape Town. The main bedroom is classically furnished with four-poster bed, chaise-longue and crystal chandeliers. From the lounge and the dining room you can step out onto the pool deck of which you will see plenty photos in this post. It is one of my favourite spots for bridal portraits pre-ceremony as from the elevated setting you literally have a view of the whole estate, vineyards and mountains. The house can be rented out to accommodated bridesmaids and entourage. The River Manor, with four double en-suite rooms, is another preps venue, that is within a stone’s throw from the Residence. This Bed and Breakfast style house has four double en-suite rooms, a cigar lounge with a bar facility and a wraparound deck overlooking beautiful lush gardens and vineyards.
It is ideal for the Groom and his entourage to get ready in their own private pozzie. Besides the two main houses, there are also 3 other cottages that can be utilised for guest accommodation. In total Molenvliet can accommodate up to 18 people – making it ideal for your closest friends and family to stay over on the night of the wedding. Ceremony & Pre-Drinks Options Molenvliet has plenty of ceremony setting options. The lawn of the Residence – This beautiful outdoor setting is surrounded by huge established oak trees and perfectly manicured gardens. The lawn next to the Pool Deck – similarly surrounded by beautiful gardens and close to the cottages and guest parking. The Ageing Cellar that can accommodate up to 150 guests seated cinema room style. This venue is perfect for less favourable weather conditions and is located right next to the reception venue – perfect for those rainy days. One of my favourite traditions at Molenvliet is for the bride and groom to lead their wedding guests down the hill to the reception venue.
The short, magical walk takes you through through the estate on a oak tree lined road the opens up into “The Street”, a road that runs through the scenic main block of vineyards. Some guests utilise “The Street” as a pre-drinks station. In the photos below you will see the fabric shading used here to create a carnival atmosphere, literally in the middle of the vineyards. Just imagine sipping your bubbly while surrounded by vineyards and mountains while listening to some fine live entertainment. The deck a surrounding the venue is another perfect pre-reception drinks spot. It overlooks the vineyards and mountains and is set right next to the Dwarsrivier that runs through the estate. And if the weather does not play along, the very versatile courtyard can be covered by a tent and used as an indoor pre-drinks area. When it comes to photo opportunities, MolenVliet has it all and more. This is a working wine farm that produces award winning wines, yet it is manicured to perfection to give a real feeling of opulence and style.
Apart from the rolling vineyards, impressive old oaks and winding paths the estate also boasts with one of the most amazing backdrops in the mountains surrounding it. And if you are worried that it might rain on your wedding day, fear not, the indoor options are just as plentiful. With an impeccably furnished and decorated Manor House and other under-roof facilities your indoor photos will totally match up to the quality of those taken on the rest of the estate. Bar, Catering & Furniture The Venue includes cutlery & crockery for up to 150 guests, 150 White Tiffany Chairs and 15 Dining Tables. It has a fully equipped kitchen, but no resident caterer, so you have to hire in your own. The bar at the main reception venue is fully licenced and fully stocked. No third party bar services are allowed and only Molenvliet wines can be served at weddings. Corkage fees apply only to Cap Classique and Champagnes. The Venue with its “all white” Colonial meets Cape Dutch appeal is designed to adapt to any wedding or event, without it ever looking the same.
