Hi does anyone know if purchasing lego from disneyland or legoland itself a better option. Are prices pretty much the same at both? qDisneyland is our first stop so as the rule goes if you see it and you like it buy it!! I think Disneyland (Downtown Disney) has the bigger store. I think prices would be similar at either. If it doesn't matter to the kids where they buy from, I'd go to Target, Walmart or Toys r Us. I think they would be cheaper. 2 places mentioned in this post Ranked of 150 things to do in Anaheim The shops at the LEGOLAND Resort (I presume you have an admission ticket) are better, and usually somewhat cheaper. Also more unique items, and sometimes some clearance/discounted items. Also a shop with lots of loose bricks/parts so you can make your own kits. I do like the LEGO Shop at Downtown Disney, and for those who are not going to Carlsbad, or Ontario Mills (where there is a LEGO Shop with Outlet items), it is a good choice. Let me assure you as one who has been to them all, the main LEGOLAND LEGO shop is larger than the Anaheim Downtown Disney shop. And the LEGOLAND Resort has multiple shops, some specializing in some specific lines, like Technic.We went to both park in 2011 and I remember 2 relatively small shops at Legoland, and one huge one at Downtown Disney. I probably wasn't specifically looking to buy much Lego though. Definately go with what Darkbeer says! Yeah there's a huge one at LEGOLAND just near the entrance/exit. They have some unique items and some discounted and discontinued items as well as seasonal. We were there during Oct 2010 (Brick or Treat time) and we found lots of Halloween and Christmas Lego sets.I was in that shop but didn't think of it as huge!! Discussing with hubby, I don't think we actually went into the one at Disneyland. I must just be judging it from the outside and photos I've seen online. Will check out the Disneyland one while we're there. I agree, we were at legoland 3 weeks ago,thought there would be a huge lego store, wrong, i think the one at downtown disney was just as good, maybe better.
We found cheaper than both Disneyland and legoland! wow so many places to buy lego... what a choice.. we anticipate getting to carlsbad, but may not! legoland resort or the park itself may be option as yes my husband is interested in the likes of speciality items such as starwars & technic (for school). im sure the girls wouldnt care where they got it from im sure the first shop they visit they will want to buy something! thankyou all for such good info, that has helped me alot. FWIW here is my two cents worth….. My son is Lego crazy and we have been to all the stores below quite a few times over the past 3 years: Lego Store Downtown Disney Lego Store Ontario Mills Legoland including every shop LOL Target & Walmart around the Anaheim area IMO & from shopping experience: 1.Ontario Mills Store (40mins drive from Anaheim in good traffic) Has the cheap prices IF you get the free coupon at the customer service desk. Ask for the coupon book (free) at the CS desk and last time we went there was a 15% off coupon valid at the Lego store on non sale items.
I believe there was a min spend to get the 15% but I cant recall what that was. This store is not as far as I am aware an outlet store but it is located in the mall that has is in the main outlet stores. When we went there was a clearance section at the back of the store with discontinued stock and also stock in damaged boxes and that was pretty good prices if you happened to see a set on your buy list. There was even some Star Wars sets in damaged boxes. Aside from that clearance section the prices and stocked lines were the same as the other Lego stores and the Lego store online. Also please note the store is a smallish one ie smaller than the Downtown store or the Legoland store. 2. Downtown Disney Lego Store Totally worth a visit to see the huge Lego creations. Lots of stock and if they are out of stock on an item they will order it in for you as long as it is in stock in their online Lego store. To be honest I don’t know that I would have called it as the Downtown store being smaller than the Legoland one – maybe it is but I didn’t notice and it is a BIG store and has the pick & mix / fill a box with lego option as well as the boxed sets.
Annual passholders can get a discount on all purchases I think it was 10%. There is a big store when you first arrive and it is a fun experience and as per PP there are some Legoland only items. Esepcially in the small cello bagged range that are around the $4.95 price range. Great for stocking stuffers. Also as you go round the park there are a number of smaller stores & booths and I did also see some sets we had not seen elsewhere. From what I recall the prices for the sets were the same as the Downtown Store. No great savings but certainly a great range. And extras that the Downtown store does not stock such as tshirts and other Lego branded merchandise. Very easy place to spend money LOL As PP have mentioned Target & Walmart are good places to check. If a set is on special at Target or Walmart then we found it to be cheaper than Downtown or Legoland but that’s kind of luck of the draw and you can check the specials on the Target us online site. Don’t forget you can order online & have it delivered to your hotel if you see a good deal.
The same goes for ToysRUS they sometimes have good Lego specials eg buy 1 get one 50% off & then their prices are better than the Lego stores. and set your country to US that way you get emailed the online specials. Also join the rewards program as you get $5 credit for every $100 spent in the Lego store or online. It does take 24hrs to credit to your account so we usually Lego shop early in our stay & then we can go back to spend the $5. Also another tip is to take along many snap lock bags in the larger sizes. Then once purchased slit open the lego boxes & flat pack them in your suitcase along with the lego in snap locks. You can then reassemble the boxes for “santa” when you get home. The Lego boxes are huge compared to the contents. But wherever you shop I don’t think it matters in a way as compared to the Aussie prices the US lego prices are cheap!! I saw a Harry Potter set here for $300 & it was $149 in the US. By the way Toys r Us (US site not the au site) ships to Australia and when they have their buy one get 1 50% off its cheaper than buying the sets in Australia even once you include the shipping.
But I have heard seen a few threads saying the shipping is very slow and customer service a little hit & miss so I have not ordered that way myself.
