We use only beautiful , extra thick , kiln dried , clear grain western red cedar. Western red cedar is widely considered to be one of the best wood species for adirondack chairs. Western red cedar is naturally rot and insect resistant. Not only does western red cedar hold up well outdoors, it is very attractive and smells nice too! Western red cedar is thermal coefficient, meaning it stays cooler in the hot summer sun, and stays warmer in cool weather.
Cedar is also ideal for stain or paint finishing. We use top quality stainless steel hardware for our products. If you have ever purchased stainless steel hardware, you know that it is much more expensive that standard zinc, galvanized, or other coated hardware. Stainless steel is simply the best for preventing rust. Less expensive hardware will eventually rust, creating unsightly rust stains on your furniture. We feel that we would be doing our customers a disservice by providing hardware that won't keep up with the longevity of western red cedar. Is the hardware used i.e. screws nuts blots etc. stainless? Yes, the screws that are used with this chair are stainless. Purchased two Adirondack chairs last year from Costco. Would like to paint/stain them a gray color. Is this a possibility? If so, what type of paint should we use? By the way, we love the chairs! We're so glad you're enjoying your chairs. We don't have a paint/stain that we would recommend - you would need something specifically made to adhere to plastic. Try consulting with your local hardware stores paint specialist for recommendations. I have two of these chairs and have had four seat slats break on us. Always right in the middle of the slat. Bought at COSTCO in 2013, but did not retain receipt. Can you send us replacement slats? Costco Burbank CA had a chair like this but with a slide out ottoman. In my many calls to Costco stores, they could only give me their model # 538769...which is the same as this one except without the ottoman. I want to purchase 2.
