An American entrepreneur has created a solution to waiting in airport queues with nowhere other than a dirty floor to sit on or a grubby wall to lean against.Chicago-based Brian Gibson has designed a gadget for luggage that allows travellers to pull out the handles of their roll-on suitcases and convert them into chairs. Mr Gibson is hoping to raise funds on Kickstarter for the bags to be manufactured, and if his goal amount of $120,400 (£74,000) is met then the suitcases could in shops by April next year. Ingeniously simple solution: Brian Gibson's neXstep luggage has a handle which converts into a chair Mr Gibson is hoping to raise $120,400 (£74,000) on Kickstarter for the bags to be manufactured. The money raised will fund production of the bags as well as marketing and promotion effortsAccording to their Kickstarter page. the neXstep Luggage System prototype bags have successfully been checked in onto aircraft on several occasions without incident. Mr Gibson also writes that the design has not been denied approval by the Federal Aviation Authority in the US.

NeXstep - which Mr Gibson developed in 2009 - can also be used as a suitcase rack when packing or unpacking luggage. The bags will be made from carbon fiber, polycarbonate, ballistic nylon, Cordura, Kevlar and aircraft grade aluminum and will look very similar to the designs on the Kickstarter page. The check-in bag is priced at $324.99 (£202) and the carry-on luggage is $224.99 (£140). 'Much-needed product': The bag has received positive comments from luggage retailers Take a seat: The luggage has a removable chair on which passengers can rest while waiting for their flight'The materials used will be of highest quality parts and have the look and feel of any high quality brand on the market today,' Mr Gibson states.'Our manufacturer has built luggage for some of the world's most recognized brands and adhere to the highest quality standards.'The money raised on Kickstarter will fund production of the bags as well as marketing and promotion Mr Gibson has partnered with two successful consumer products executives, Thomas R Sandler who is the former CEO Americas of Samsonite, and Chris Gantz, the former CEO of Japan Electronic to realise his vision.

Part of an extraordinary range of furniture designed by green enthusiast Katie Thomspon, the suitcase chair is made from an old Samsonite suitcase, a steel reinforced internal structure, upholstered linen and turned timber legs. A beautiful and interesting design, Thompson’s chair lets you travel the world even while sitting at home. And if Samsonite isn’t your bag, Thomspon has a whole range of recycled suitcases dating as far back as the 20’s.As an avid traveller I love the idea of upcycling things like vintage suitcases into shabby chic furniture pieces. I often imagine myself having an apartment once again and accenting it with upcycled pieces that remind me of my love for travel and exploration. My latest obsession is vintage suitcases. OMG I love vintage suitcases – you know, once you get the smell out of them!! This suitcase chair by Kate Thompson actually made me squee with joy. How f-ing cute is that?! Naturally this is a designer version using supple leather, so I scoured the internet and found a DIY version by See Kate Sew which shows you how to make this chair in very simple steps.

It’s a super cute idea and one that I have bookmarked on Pinterest for my future apartment – whenever that happens! I love the idea of having a vintage suitcase table as an accent in a hallway, in a little reading corner, or as an end table in the living room or bedroom. Lets face it, I could put this ANYWHERE is my future apartment and I would totally love it – especially if I made the effort to buy the suitcase and make the table myself. And thankfully there is a rather helpful DIY tutorial on House and Home by Keeley Durocher on how to make it. I’m not a cat owner (slightly allergic), but I imagine if I were I would be tempted to make a cat bed out of a vintage suitcase. I mean, how cute would that be?!?! The lovely Donna from My Sweet Things has posted a super easy tutorial on how to make this über unique cat bed – and I imagine if you’re a portrait photographer you could do this and use for baby photo shoots, instead of cats. Oh, hello accent wall of my dreams!

This is another DIY project that made me squee with joy. I LOVE this idea! Of course I would need to know somebody with a saw because there is no way I should be trusted to operate a saw on my own. That being said ManMade posted a rather short and easy post on how to do this yourself. You know, because you probably have the ability to use a saw safely. Wanna come to my place when the time comes and help a girl out?! OMG MY MIND IS BLOWN! And probably my ears. A few years ago there was an etsy seller selling what was called Boomcase which was vintage suitcases turned into speakers. Gnfortunately they have disappeared off the internets, but thankfully the awesome peeps over at Instructables have posted a tutorial on how to make your own suitcase speakers! There are so many ways to upcycle small vintage cosmetic suitcases, but turning it into a charging station for my iPhone and other small gadgets is probably my favourite idea (after turning it into speakers!!!). I found a great DIY tutorial on Design Sponge that looks fairly straightforward. A
