I thought I tried everything possible to get these casters to push into the shaft of the stem. I used WD40 with no luck, used pliers to press the open O Ring tighter with no luck as the O Ring was very strong. I tried to remove the open O Ring with no luck for the same reason, the metal was too strong. I tried hammering with a rubber mallot from the bottom of the casters while the chair was on it's side, as well as putting a solid, one inch thick board next to the bottom of the casters and hitting it with a strong claw hammer.
Again the caster stems didn't slip into the shaft. I was about to return them when I thought of something I hadn't tried. I put the tip of the stem into the shaft while the desk chair was sitting upright. I held the caster as straight as I could and whacked the Chair Base hard with a rubber ballot about three times. In slid the casters' stem. They did fit the chair base!Also, they helped the chair move through our carpet whereas the 2" casters that came with the desk chair found me stuck in one place like mud. One downfall, the lowest setting for the seat is now higher, so I will need to get a box to rest my feet on while sitting or the backs of my knees will get pinched and cause numbness and jerky legs.
