Meanwhile Coral Bay is considered one of the best in the whole region, with a broad sweep of sand and a range of watersports available.The city of Paphos is protected as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, thanks to its collection of ruins from a number of eras – there are Roman villas, Dionysos, Aion and Theseus, which boast impressive mosaics. Also in the same Archaeological Park is the Odeon, an ancient Greek amphitheatre, which is occasionally used as a venue to this day.Cyprus’ climate makes it a fantastic destination for watersports enthusiasts – for most of the year you can enjoy sports as diverse as canoeing, yachting, water-skiing, motor-boating, jet-skiing and parasailing, There’s also a dive centre at Coral Bay, offering trips to an underwater rock formation known as the “amphitheatre”.
The Paphos region is also home to beautiful scenery that can be enjoyed on foot or by bike – there’s the Akamas Peninsula in the northwest of the region, a National Park, which offers a range of trails covering unspoiled and rugged coastal scenery.If you’re a golf fan then you’ll find a four courses in the region, easily accessed from the coast. When it comes to visitor attractions there’s the Paphos Bird Park, just north of the city, or the Aphrodite Water Park, with flumes and rides for all the family. In the region around Paphos there’s a subtropical Mediterranean climate, which makes for warm weather for much of the year. The period from May to October brings hardly any rainfall, and temperatures that get above 25 degrees, rising to the low 30s in August. The remainder of the year is a mix of moderately warm and mild conditions – as late as November there are still daily highs in the low 20s in Paphos. There’s more rainfall too, with eight or nine rainy days per month in mid-winter compared to none in summer.
You can get to a Paphos holiday villa via Paphos International Airport (PFO), which has connections to regional airports in the UK and Europe via budget airlines. It’s a short drive southeast from Paphos city, and once there the centre of the city is easily navigable on foot. The A6 highway connects the southwest coast of Cyprus with the next city along, Limassol.
