Following a successful debut last year, Bricktastic is returning to Manchester Central complex with an even bigger event. There will be giant Lego models, the chance to contribute to a collaborative Minecraft build and to get hands on with the brick pits, each filled with 75,000 Lego bricks.

The event - held at the convention centre over the weekend of July 2 and 3 - will feature models by more than 50 of the UK’s most talented Lego builders, many of which will never have been seen before. Three actual Lego designers will be there, as well as Bright Bricks, the UK’s only LEGO Certified Professional Company, with its dragon measuring nearly 4m tall, a unicorn and a fire engine you can actually sit in. There will be a variety of Lego merchandise to buy but Bricktastic is billed as ‘a family Lego experience for all ages’ rather than a shopping one and each child at the event gets a mini Lego set worth £3 to take home. All proceeds go to the children’s charity Fairy Bricks, which donates Lego to children in hospitals and hospices.

Following last year’s event, £2,400 worth of sets were given to the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital as well as many other donations. Anti-Lego slippers could bring an end to parents' misery Fairy Bricks’ chief fairy Kev Gascoigne said: “Last year was a fantastic debut show but this year we have really raised the bar. “The models that will be displayed are breath-taking and pictures will not do them justice. They all need to be appreciated by people’s own eyes and for a considerable length of time.” He added: “Manchester Central is a dream venue for us. Not only is the Exchange Hall one of the most accessible and family friendly venues we have ever visited, as a team nothing is ever too much trouble. “They get what we are trying to achieve with both the event and the charity and their support and involvement are testimony to that.” The event runs from 10am to 5pm. Advance tickets cost £11.50 for adults and £8.50 for children, with on the door prices £13 and £10.
