Look!: A Giant LEGO Christmas Tree Built In Sydney (Image credit: Sydney Christmas) LEGO crazy at your place? The Southern Hemisphere's biggest LEGO Christmas tree has just been built in Sydney, Australia! Here are all the stats, and links to plans to build some LEGO Christmas trees of your own. The tree is 10 metres tall (33 feet) and is comprised of 500,000 LEGO and Duplo bricks. It took approximately 1,200 hours to build. The tree was so heavy it had to be formed in parts, and finally constructed on site. It lights up, too! For more info on the Sydney Tree, including video footage of the tree being built, check out this video clip from local Sydney morning show program Sunrise. (Image credit: Huffington Post) The tree is the second tallest in the world, the tallest having been built in the UK by the company Bright Bricks, at London's St. Pancras International Station. This tree was 12.2 metres high, and comprised of over 600,000 LEGO bricks. It was also adorned by 1,200 "baubles" made by local school children.

Inspired to try a little LEGO Christmas tree building at home? LEGO builder Chris McVeigh has designed his own LEGO Christmas tree guide, for which you can source the pieces at your local LEGO pick-a-brick store. You can download the guide here. Of course, it is much, much smaller than the other trees! Alternatively, LEGO has brought out a few Christmas tree sets: notably, the Winter Village Toy Shop set, the Decorating The Tree set, and a few LEGO creator sets (1, 2, 3 and 4). All of these are retired now, though you might be able to source them online on Amazon or eBay.Learning ChristmasChristmas ActivitiesChristmas CraftsChristmas Legos IdeasLego Christmas DecorationsLego Christmas OrnamentsChristmas BuildsLego DecorationsInstructions VideosForwardTry some of these super fun LEGO Christmas Projects. Bricks for Good is a program through GlobalGiving where you can purchase a specific LEGO set depending on what sort of charity programs you’d like to support. Each LEGO set available at Bricks for Good is a custom, limited edition brick set, and although the project isn’t associated with the LEGO company, the sets, which are independently designed, purchased, and packaged by GlobalGiving stack up to a ton of fun.

The following sets are available: Build a LEGO well and bring clean water to people in Ghana, Haiti, and China. Build a LEGO school and educate children in Kenya, Guatemala, and India. Build a LEGO tree and help plant trees and restore forests in Madagascar, Peru, and India If $50-$150 seems steep for a LEGO set, remember, this is more than a LEGO set, it’s a charity organization. Your donation for each LEGO set will support clean water, education, and reforestation projects — and in some cases your donation will go to support vital project-related costs including water purification systems, textbooks and gardeners’ salaries. It’s a clever program for families to invest in because it offers kids a new LEGO set, but also teaches them about health and environmental issues around the world, not to mention the beauty of giving back to others in need. + Bricks for GoodThis listing has expired.
