The book presents the history of seven architectural styles including Art Deco, Neoclassical and Postmodern, through buildings that have been recreated using the interlocking plastic blocks. Step-by-step instructions help readers to build twelve Lego models including Thomas Jefferson's Monticello, Modernist skyscrapers, Frank Lloyd Wright's Willits House, a Brutalist library and a High-Tech train station. "The official Lego Architecture sets are bestsellers because they allow people to experience architecture hands-on by recreating famous buildings," said Tom Alphin, author of The Lego Architect. "My book runs with this idea, but with the broader goal of exploring many influential architectural styles." A model of Le Corbusier's Unité d'Habitation in Marseille – the Brutalist development that redefined high-density housing in the 1950s – is featured as the cover image. Last year, Lego launched a set of monochrome building blocks aimed at the architecture and design community.
